Band Social - December 1st!
Wortham Band Students are invited to come enjoy our band social after school on Friday 12/1. The social will be from 3:45-5:15. We will have pizza, drinks, and games. Students are welcome to bring games that they can play with other students. I can lock the games in my office during the school day if your child doesn't want to carry it around the entire day. Phones will NOT be allowed, but can remain in backpacks.
In order to attend the social, students must have paid band fees for the year, as well as passed off AntMan, Hawkeye, and The Falcon lines on the MakeMusic Cloud. This must be completed by Tuesday 11/28, so we can plan accordingly with pizza purchases.
Optional Band Rehearsals
As we prepare for our winter concert on 12/11, we are going to have some optional rehearsals for students to give them a chance to play their music together. On your students' rehearsal day, I will have the Fine Arts Ramp Doors open at 7:20AM, however have to close them at 7:30AM. Students must be in the building by 7:30AM in order to participate in the rehearsal. We will rehearse from 7:30-8:15AM.

Practice Records
Please encourage them to fill out their minutes, and have a parent or guardian sign it on Sunday for verification. Practice Records will be checked on Tuesday, and grades entered in TAC.
Practice Expectations
Students have a weekly practice record to log their practice minutes. This record will be checked every Tuesday in class. Students will begin with an expectation of 15 minutes a day 5 days a week. There will be a grade associated with this that serves as a data point entered in TAC. This record will serve as a partnership between the students, parents and directors giving insight into the students efforts to reinforce concepts that are covered in class. Learning a musical instrument takes time, and a student that only plays their instrument or practices music literacy in the classroom will eventually struggle to perform at an acceptable level for their weekly playing assessments. The following are suggestions as to what can be counted towards practice minutes
- Musicracer.com
- Note Name Identification
- Essential Elements
- Band Music
Students should simulate the structure established in class for their own practice session. Make sure they are sitting in a chair that does NOT have wheels or arm rests. The more frequently a child practice their instrument the quicker they will progress!
Instruments can be returned to the band hall every morning at 8:13 when the administration team releases students with instruments to the band hall prior to the start of the school day.
