Go Terriers!
Evan Noell, Principal, 6th Grade
Hello Terriers!
I am excited to begin the 2023-2024 school year as the Principal at William Byrd Middle School. It is a true honor to take on this responsibility. I look forward to developing relationships with our staff, parents/guardians, the Vinton community, and most importantly, our students. The middle grades are a time of tremendous social, emotional, and academic growth for students; our staff looks forward to facilitating this growth alongside you. We will work diligently to promote the development of our students’ Opportunity Ready skills as they prepare for the next phase of their lives. The overall development of students requires a team approach, and I am grateful for the opportunity to assist in this process.

New Student Orientation
WBMS will hold the 6th grade orientation on Thursday, Aug. 3rd from 1:00 until 2:30PM. The orientation lasts the full 1 and 1/2 hours. Students will do a walk-through of their schedule and meet their teachers that day. While students are walking through their schedules, parents are encouraged to attend a presentation about their student starting middle school. In addition, WBMS will hold a 6th grade parent open house from 2:30-4:00PM following the 6th grade orientation. Parents will be able to meet their students’ teachers during this time. Finally, if a 6th grader is going to take band, they are encouraged to go to the band room to try out different instruments and receive general information about the band class.
WBMS will also hold an orientation on Thursday, Aug. 3rd from 1:00-2:30PM for new 7th and 8th grade students that have moved to the area over the summer and have never attended WBMS. This orientation is not for students that are returning to WBMS in the fall. This orientation lasts the full 1 and ½ hours and students will get to walk through their schedules and meet their teachers.
Returning Student Open-House
WBMS will hold an open house for 7th and 8th grade parents (new and returning to WBMS) on Thursday, Aug. 3rd from 2:30-4:00PM. Parents will be able to meet their students’ teachers and students may come with their parents to walk around and find their classes before the first day of school.
ANVER - Complete First-Day Forms Through ParentVue
The Annual Verification (ANVER) forms are now available online on ParentVue. If you are having trouble logging into your ParentVue accout, please call us at (540) 890-1035 and we can assist you. It is critical that you complete your ANVER forms as soon as possible. Your student will not be issued a laptop until these forms are completed. The deadline is August 4.
7th Grade Vaccination Requirements
This is a reminder that there are new vaccination requirements mandated by state law. The required vaccinations are a booster of tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (TDAP) and their first dose of meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY). PLEASE be sure your child has had all the required vaccinations, AND that you have provided documentation to the school. State law prohibits students from starting the 7th grade until all the requirements have been met. We want every student in class on the first day of school. It’s disappointing for students when they show up on the first day and are then told that they cannot stay at school.
