TIPS Journal November 1, 2022
on the school year so far
Greetings from Tokyo International Progressive School
Thanks to the parents and grandparents that hosted the Halloween Bake Sale! Home baking makes every occasion better.
To encourage reading, students are invited to order books for their reading pleasure through SmartEd book club. Ordering takes place between November 14 and November 27, from a catalogue each student will receive. Happy shopping! A book for anyone - young or old - is a good investment in their mind and their future.
This is short notice, but photo day is November 2. According to our photographer,
"We recommend helping your child to choose their outfits.
- Choose clothes that look good on them paying close attention to colors that a flattering.
- Stay away from clothes that compete for attention and take the focus away from your child's smiling face - avoid slogans, logos and big patterns.
- Choose smaller jewelry and accessories and avoid large and bulky pieces."
As always, any questions, please ask!
All the best,
Lyn Sato
TIPS Principal

PSA points of discussion:
- Halloween Decor at school was successful. Thanks everybody for your time and creativity!
- PSA Bake Sale: Monday 10/31 from 11am to 1pm. Regina to set up Sign-up Genius to round up baked food donations and volunteers. Avoid peanut/nuts items.
- Next PSA Bake Sale: Wednesday, December 7 from 11am to 1pm.
- Discussed how PSA uses funds collected from families: staff/parent social (planning for Spring similar to Bubbies), staff appreciation brunch, student graduation gifts, school gift (e.g. Garden boxes presented '21-'22 school year). Proceeds go to benefiting staff/students and fostering the school community.
- Continue collecting the 10,000 yen from families for PSA funds.
- Clarified that all PSA meetings are open to the TIPS community to attend, and that PSA meeting minutes are also available school wide. Class Parent Reps are encouraged to remind their families of upcoming monthly, PSA meetings, and share minute notes. Please remind families that information is always provided in the monthly TIPS Journal which is distributed by Lyn Sato a few days before the PSA meeting. LYN SATO has included the zoom link to PSA meetings on monthly TIPS Journal, here on out.
- Nako Pipe offered to speak with her non-profit organization about collab opportunities with TIPS on inviting the organization's orchestra to the school for an event, as well as possibly finding ways to introduce a music program for school.

Furthermore, as we got into the Halloween spirit this year, the Halloween Door Decoration contest winner was the grade 8 and 9 TAP class. The winning TAP will be rewarded with pizza for all of the hard work and effort that they put into decorating their door. We also enjoyed a Halloween themed movie on the 31st with hot popcorn and fizzy drinks. Thank you to those who dressed up in costumes and congratulations to the costume contest winners!
