Can you believe we are already closing out the first month of our second semester? The 2020-2021 school year has been one like none other but continues to fly by. As I look at the calendar and count the weeks of school left with students, I am left totally shocked. We have about sixteen weeks left to work with your students and a lot to accomplish.
Even though this year has looked different than any of my thirty-three years in education and has had many challenges, I cannot thank you enough for the true "grit" and perseverance you all (students, parents, teachers, and staff) have shown. Each day, I am so proud to be the campus leader of such a wonderful group of teachers and families as we have at Plainview Intermediate Elementary. I sincerely believe we are the best of the best! Thank you for continuing to help us achieve and excel at the top as we are Plainview strong.
If you have not scheduled a parent/teacher conference, please contact your student’s homeroom teacher. You should have received a form from the classroom teacher to sign-up for a Google Meet or a phone conference. If you have not received a sign-up form, you may call 580-223-6437, and we will put you in touch with the homeroom teacher. The conference night is scheduled for February 11th from 3:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. There is only one conference night. This is a great opportunity to visit with the teacher about your student’s strengths and weaknesses and what you can do at home. The classroom teachers can review the NWEA MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) scores for reading and mathematics with you. Students took the online tests early December prior to break. Many students have shown improvement from their fall scores to winter and if here last year in the winter, from winter to winter.
In case you do not have spring break marked on your calendars, please mark the week of March 15th through March 19th. We are very appreciative of those who have scheduled their family trips around the school calendar this year because attendance is one of our campus goals. We are held accountable through the state accountability system for our attendance percentage, and the state is now tracking chronic absenteeism. Students being at school and on time is extremely important and is a beginning step for forming life-long habits.
