Dimond News Blast
December 5, 2023
Dear Dimond Families
A quick reminder that winter break is fastly approaching, only 12 days left, and students still have much to do before the end of the semester! Please encourage your students to get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast and safely get to school on time to maximize the remaining time they have to complete assignments and projects and maintain engagement so that they can finish strong.
Career Fair
The Dimond's School Business Partnership PLC. is hosting its Career Fair on December 11th from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Old Gym. Last year's career fair was a wonderful experience for participating students and businesses alike.
PTSA
Encourage your artistic side and join this year's Reflections Art Program! The January 5 deadline offers a chance to express hope through categories like visual arts, photography, and film production. Check the Dimond PSTA website for details and entry forms, and remember, submissions can be sent via email or in person to the office or Lynx Lair. Embrace the theme "I am hopeful because" and let your creativity shine!
Purchasing Dimond spirit wear online and arranging for office pick-up is a convenient way to handle gifts. Just be sure to specify during the purchase that it's a gift, to avoid unnecessary contact with the student for pick-up. This ensures a smooth and surprise-filled experience for the recipient.
Parking Lot Conditions
As we are experiencing severe swings in the weather with the snow, freeze, thaw, sleet patterns, we want to make sure that everyone is extremely careful in our parking lot, drop off lanes, and sidewalks. Dimond maintains our sidewalks and our BPO is out everyday sanding, clearing snow and trying to make it as safe as possible. ASD maintains our parking lots and clears them as soon as they are able to.
Student Nutrition
A friendly reminder from our Student Nutrition department: with the semester ending in two weeks, it's a great time to check out your students lunch/cafeteria balance on Parent Connect and settle outstanding balances, as well as load their accounts with money for the upcoming semester.
MAP Assessment Winter Window
The MAP assessment winter window will run from December 4th-December 21st. Freshman and a select group of other students will take this assessment to determine their academic growth over the course of the semester in language arts and math.
While the window is several weeks, individual students will experience minimal disruption to their course work, as the assessment will only take a single block period for language arts and math.
Please contact the Counseling and Curriculum Office if you have any questions! 907-742-7008.

DIMOND CAREER RESOURCE INFORMATION:
Mrs. Lauwers is in the process of updating and posting upcoming scholarship, testing information, FAFSA, potential college timelines/ application deadlines and with job resources that may want to pursue after graduation. That and so much more is available on-line and in person in the DHS Career Resource.
Please contact Mrs. Lauwers through email at lauwers_kimberly@asdk12.org if you have any questions or if you or your student would like to set up an appointment. From now until Winter break, as well as after winter break, she will be working at the school on Tuesday and Thursdays with her Wednesdays either in a classroom as a substitute or in the CRC office. If the CRC office door is open, Mrs. Lauwers is in her office and feel free to come in for help! You must have a pass from your teacher or come in at lunch or after school. Appointment hours are 8:30am-3:00pm.
In the meantime, Mrs. Lauwers recommends that students looking to apply for educational opportunities for after their life at Dimond. Start talking to their teachers about letters of recommendations. It is recommended that students have three letters of recommendations either ready to go or in process by the time they get back from Winter Break, as that will be the time when a rush of students are looking for letters of recommendation. The sooner you get your requests in, the more likely your teacher will have the time to write you a wonderful letter.
