Monomoy Silver Squares
The American Film Stereotypes class presented their "Final Exam" movies on the last day of our class. Students had to use many techniques that were made famous by such great directors as D.W. Griffith, Martin Scorcese, John Ford, Francis Ford Coppola, Woody Allen, and Spike Lee, and their movies needed to be 5 - 10 minutes long. We ended with an award ceremony that rivaled the Golden Globes: the Monomoy Silver Squares!! Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Use of Techniques, Best Special Effects all went to 8th graders Arabella Higgins, Katie Towns, Keira Haley, and Lily Clemons. Best Supporting Actor, Best Editing, Best Scene, Most Humorous, Best Cinematography went to a mixed-grade group: Sophomore Jason Elhilow, and 8th graders: Dan McDonough, Hayden Forrest, and (not pictured) Trey Lapinski. Best Costumes/Makeup, Best Sound or Music, and Best Lighting went to another mixed-grade group: Junior Gabriela Juliani, Sophomore Lorry Maurancy, and 8th grader Terah Cobb.
Broadway actor and composer, Robi Hager, visits MRHS
Robi Hager, a native of Mexico City, Broadway actor, and composer, just finished ten days of master classing and workshopping with our cast of 9 to 5. Robi is the original Broadway cast of Spring Awakenings, the closing Nick Jonas cast of How to Succeed in Business, and Conrad's understudy for the revival of Bye Bye Birdie.
Robi has three musicals of his own that are in different stages, from conception to workshops in New York City. It is Robi's 9th time coming to work with our students, and we are grateful to have him here time and time again.
A big thank you to Monomoy Friends Of The Arts for funding opportunities like this for our students. Our next FOTA meeting is on Monday, February 6, 2023, @ 400 East.
