KEEPING YOU CONNECTED...
Dear Parent/Guardian,
2018 is quickly coming to an end and another exciting year is just around the corner! We hope your family has a wonderful winter break and are looking forward to seeing all of our students in January!
As a District, we will continue to share reminders, updates, and successes monthly to keep you connected.
Thank you for taking the time to stay connected!
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow!
Are you planning a family trip for the holidays? As you think about your arrangements, we want to stress the importance of sending your child to school every day possible. Every year, absences spike in the weeks before and after the winter holiday as families squeeze in a few more vacation days. We know that just a few missed days here and there, even if they’re excused absences, can add up to too much lost learning time and put your child behind in school. Put simply, too many absences at any age can affect a student’s chances for academic success and eventually for graduation.
This year’s winter break will begin on Friday, December 21st, and school will resume as regularly scheduled on Tuesday, January 8th. We recognize that holidays are an important time for reconnecting with families far away, and the cost of plane tickets often influences when you want to travel. But keep in mind the cost of your children’s education if they miss too much school and the message you will be sending about the importance of attendance. This holiday season, give your children the gift of an education and the habit of good attendance!
Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow! Don't let absences add up!

Galena Park ISD Host Veterans Day Luncheon
Galena Park ISD hosted its annual Veterans Day Luncheon on Friday, November 9. More than 150 veterans and their family members attended the event and were honored by the North Shore Senior High School’s Perfect Harmony, who performed the theme song from each military branch and finished with the Star Spangled Banner. There were also letters written to the veterans on the tables by elementary students with special readings from the Veterans Day essay contest winners, Maileen Guzman from Pyburn Elementary School and Marcelo Cardenas from North Shore Elementary School.
Maileen wrote, “Veterans are bold and courageous. They are warriors. They are remarkable because they help us and protect us.”
Linda Jamail and Maria Delgado from Representative Ana Hernandez’ office; Constable Clint Brown from Constable Christopher Diaz’ office; Wanda Heath Johnson, Galena Park ISD Board President; and Wilfred J. Broussard, Jr., Galena Park ISD Board Vice President stopped by to express their appreciation to our veterans.
GPISD would like to thank all of the veterans and family members who attended the Veterans Day Luncheon.
