Wiggin Street Parent Update
August 19, 2022
Better Together
Families,
It has been an amazing start to the new school year! Our focus is on building relationships with our students and staff this quarter. We are continuing our themes of "Rooted in Respect" and "Better Together". Rod Zolman, Mrs. Zolman's husband, created our t-shirts again this year, and they are perfect!
The staff went on a Scavenger Hunt around the community before school started, and it ended at the Upside Down Tree which you can see in the picture above. I couldn't ask for a better group of people to work with each day!
Each class will also take a walk to the Upside Down Tree near Peirce Hall over the first 2 weeks of school to take a class picture. This is all part of a video that will be shared for our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) Kickoff on Friday, August 26th. We can't wait to share it with you too!
Lastly, I have shared some pictures taken in each classroom. I had the pleasure of reading to each of the classes during art over the past 2 days. Only One You by Linda Kranz is a story about the love between parents and their child when sharing wisdom about life. The story ends with Adri's parents saying, "There's only one you in this great big world. Make it a better place." Our students will be making Wiggin Street a better place by "Respecting Ourselves, Others, and the Space". Mrs. Biggerstaff will also help students to each design a unique painted rock to be displayed in a river rock garden outside the gym that they will pass each day on their way to the playground.
Thank you for sharing your children with us each day, and we hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Best wishes,
Christy Grandstaff

Chromebooks
As a district we are 1:1 on Chromebooks, and students in grades 3-5 received a touchscreen Chromebook at the end of last school year to be used in class. This school year, students in grades 3-5 will also have a Chromebook that they can keep at home to complete assignments.
The 2022-23 MVCSD Student Electronic Device Handbook can also be found on the district website, but I've linked it here for convenience. Please read carefully to understand that "a Student Electronic Device or any of its accessories that are lost (whereabouts unknown) or damaged is the responsibility of the student and parent involved in the loss of property. The replacement costs are listed below. The user will not be given another device or accessory to take home until the replacement cost of the lost/damaged device or accessory is paid in full"
Replacement of the Chromebook - $341
Chromebook Touchscreen-$199
Chromebook Charger-$29
Chromebook Motherboard-$269
Chromebook Non Touchscreen-$50
iPad-$299
There is an option to purchase insurance this year, and more information can be found here:
OPT IN Student Electronic Device Insurance Flyer (These will be sent home at the start of the school year.)
School Attendance
You can send a note with your child to the office in the morning if there is a change in their pick up routine. Sometimes changes are necessary during the school day for pick up. If you have a change in the way your child needs to go home, it is preferred that you send an email to your child's teacher and Anne, our secretary, at aphilllips@mvcsd.us. Phone calls must be made to the office before 2:00 pm if needed, so the change can be communicated.
School Lunches
Breakfast- $1.00
Lunch- $2.75
Milk only- $0.50
Thrive Kids Coming to Wiggin Street!
Welcome back Wiggin Street families! We hope your summer treated you well and you are ready for a GREAT school year! We are SO excited to once again offer a Thrive Kids program to all the Wiggin Street kids and we CAN'T WAIT to get started!
Thrive Kids is focused on using fitness to help youth grow in confidence, character, and leadership and to help ALL kids be more active and strengthen their mindset! This year's program will be a 6-week program held on Tuesday mornings from 8-8:45am that runs from September 6th-October 11th. We will also host a Spring session (dates TBD). Within each 6-week program we will focus on a specific movement skill (i.e. squatting) as well as a specific mindset skill (i.e. setting goals). Our hope is that within this 6-week program we will guide youth to become more active and strengthen their ability to overcome obstacles!
Be on the lookout for a permission slip that will be come home with your child in the near future.
See you soon!
Coach Hannah
