Making History
On Saturday, October 29, the San Marcos High School Rattler band competed at the Area D Marching Competition. The band earned 15th place, moving up 12 places from last year's 27th place finish, and earning the highest ranking in the school's history! Congratulations to our amazing Band students, staff, dedicated parents and Booster Club members for your dedication to this program. Rattler Nation is so proud of all you accomplished this season!

SMHS Orchestra Fall Concert & Region 12 Success
The Region 12 Philharmonic Orchestra Auditions took place in San Antonio, here are the results:
Kaila Adams, ranked No 1 overall in violins, concertmaster
Nikolas Hall, ranked 11th overall in violas
Bubba Ward, Jr., ranked No 2 overall in bass, co-principal
Megan Peters-Stich, ranked No 18 overall in cellos, did not place
Lukas Bauerkemper, ranked No 23 overall in cellos, did not place.
With Ben Keller and Evan Foor from last week, we have 5 students from our program make a Region orchestra. We are steadily increasing our presence in Region 12! Congratulations to all who prepared for these last two weeks!
Bonham Storybook Parade
To celebrate reading, on Friday, October 28, our Bonham Bear students and staff paraded through the halls dressed as their favorite storybook characters.
Reading Rattlers
Thank you to all guest readers who read and visited with our Mendez Mighty Strikers and De Zavala Diamonds! The two campuses received special visits from SMCISD Board of Trustees, SMCISD Administration, SMHS students and staff, community guests, Texas State Bobcats and the crowd favorite, Ricky the Rattler!
Rattler Up for a CURE
On October 28 the Rattlers held their annual Pink Out Friday Night Lights game versus New Braunfels. Students, staff and fans wore pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Spooky Fall Festivals
On Thursday, October 27, SMCISD Elementary campuses held trunk-o-treat night of fun for their students and families. Rattlers could dress up, get candy and play games. Thank you to all the parents volunteers and staff members that made these nights special for our students and families.
Rattler Rivalry
Goodnight and Miller middle schools competed in their annual football game and volleyball game at San Marcos HS this past week. The SMCISD community came out in great support of the two middle schools and we look forward for the 8th grade students to represent San Marcos High School next year.
City of San Marcos Community Survey
The City of San Marcos is launching the National Community Survey to gather feedback from residents on issues including housing affordability, transportation, education, recreational opportunities, and civic engagement. The survey is administered by Polco and is available in English and Spanish. Beginning October 21, you're invited to take the survey online. Responses will be collected through November 4, 2022. Information provided to Polco remains completely anonymous and confidential. You cannot be identified through your responses and participating in the survey will not impact your immigration status in any way.
Crockett Math Night
Crockett students and families enjoyed a night of multiplication and addition at the school's first family night of the school year on Tuesday, October 25.
Cardona's Corner Podcast
SMCISD is proud to bring you episode two of the Cardona's Corner Podcast - a podcast created to inform parents of district initiatives throughout the 2022-2023 academic school year. Episode two focuses on fentanyl, vaping and other drug issues facing our students today. Special thanks to our guests, San Marcos Police Department Chief Stan Standridge and Hays County Deputy Anthony Hipolito.
SMCISD Shoutout – BOO BASH
Thank you to our SMCISD Human Resources Department, a.k.a. our daily Rosie the Riveter's, for organizing the inaugural Employee Health & Wellness Boo Bash! We thank our local vendors that were in attendance. Benefits provided consisted of vaccines, treats, and prizes too.
