MMS Update September 8, 2023
A Note from Mrs. Gallagher
Skyward Progress Reports
Skyward’s default has been set to send grade reports on the first of each month. These reports will be sent to each email account provided by families in Skyward.
Families may adjust their Skyward accounts to receive daily or weekly updates about their student’s current grades. The grades listed in these emails from Skyward do not reflect a final grade in a course, but give a snapshot of the overall letter grade for each current course, as of the time the report is generated.
If, after viewing the report, you have questions about your student’s grades, your first step should be to log into Skyward and discuss with your student the individual assignment and assessment grades he or she has earned for the course. If you still have questions after speaking with your student and viewing the detailed gradebook in Skyward, please contact your student’s teacher.
Skyward - Viewing Assignments
Skyward has the capability to show assignments and their Special Codes. Here are the directions to see the codes. After logging in to Student Access:
1. Click on the Gradebook tab
2. Click on the blue "Display Options" next to their name and school
3. Click on "Show Assignments". A green check mark will appear.
4. All of the assignments that have been posted to Student Access will display.
5. Little bubbles will appear in place of letter grades and when the student clicks on the bubble, the Special Code description will display (e.g. Satisfactory).
Google Classroom
Students will need to sign in to their SLCS account to view the two presentations about Google Classroom.

Ele's Group Survey
This Fall Millennium Middle School is proud to provide an 8-week grief support group, offered jointly by Ele’s Place and Millennium Middle School. This program will be offered during the school day, once a week for 8 weeks, and is designed to help students who have experienced the death of someone important to them. In small group sessions, students will have the opportunity to talk about their feelings and experiences with others who understand, express their feelings through a variety of activities, and learn positive coping skills. Groups will be led by a trained Ele’s Place professional and Danielle Pitzer, School Social Worker at Millennium Middle School. All groups will be held once a week during one of their class periods.
Ele’s Place is a non-profit community agency that has been offering grief support groups to children and families since 1991. We at Millennium Middle School are pleased to work together with Ele’s Place to offer this very special opportunity to your child. We know that children and teens can be deeply affected by the death of someone close to them, and we have seen children's behavior, self-esteem, and school performance suffer as a result of their grief.
In order to identify students who may benefit from this support group or be interested, students will be given a short OPTIONAL survey during class at the end of September. After interest is given, parents/guardians of those students who expressed interest will be contacted for permission.
Groups will be facilitated by an Ele’s Place staff member, and Danielle Pitzer from our school. The results of these surveys are only viewable by our school social worker.
The four question survey is as follows:
Y/N- I've had someone close to me die.
If yes, it continues to:
Y/N- My feelings about death have been hard to deal with.
Y/N- I would be interested in joining a group with other students who have also had someone close to them die.
Y/N- I have participated in a group or Ele's Group before with other kids who have had someone close to them die.
If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Pitzer at:
248-573-8257 or PitzerD@slcs.us
Item Drop Off
Please know that we only call students down at the following times if an item hasn't been picked up on their own:
- 10:44: After third hour, right before lunch
- 1:22: Between 5th and 6th hour
*Please try to have items dropped off before these times to make sure we can get them to your student. Please also note we use the two consistent times to minimize classroom interruptions.
Curriculum Night
We hope to see you September 14 for Millennium Middle School's Curriculum Night.
Classroom visits will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. During this time, you will have the opportunity to follow your student’s schedule and experience his/her day as he/she does. You will visit each class for ten minutes and have five minutes passing time between classes. Please bring your student's schedule.
