PRINCIPAL'S CORNER:
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING 6TH AND 7TH GRADE SOCIAL ON FRIDAY 3/11:
- Students will be escorted by their homeroom teacher to the social right after dismissal.
- Due to the number of students who we anticipate will be participating, and given the potential forecast of rain during dismissal from the social, we have relocated the social to the gymnasium and student pick up will take place at the car rider lane starting at 6:30 PM.
- Please follow the same procedures we use every day at the car rider lane, including using the parking lot across the school to accommodate the high number of cars. If you are not familiar with our car riders' procedure, please use this link to watch a video: https://www.gcpsk12.org/domain/10525
- Students won't be allowed to walk off campus for pick up.
- We are no longer selling tickets for this event.
Thank you very much for your patience as we implement a safe dismissal procedure for all students participating in this event.
A NEW GCPS PARENT PERCEPTION SURVEY WILL BE COMING OUT SOON!
PARENT WORKSHOP COMING TO COLEMAN!
As part of our effort to include all stakeholders in the important conversation about the challenges our children and youth face today, but also in trying to be proactive rather than reactive given that those challenges can have an impact on student learning and our school operations, we are excited to announce that we have partnered with the GCPS Office of Student Discipline and our cluster sister middle school, Duluth Middle School, to bring to Coleman MS a parent workshop on the temptations and trends faced by children and youth in today's society.
We are looking forward to this wonderful opportunity and we hope that you can join us!
Please see flyer below.
Thank you,
Dr. Hernandez.
INFORMATION ABOUT OUR CAFETERIA MENU:
We are still having some challenges with our cafeteria menu due to ingredient shortages and supply chain issues. As a result, our cafeteria workers can't always prepare all items described on the menu. As a general reminder, the menus we serve in our school cafeterias must follow district and state guidelines to guarantee healthy nutrition standards for our students. As a result, our cafeteria manager can't locally improvise items on the menu when facing shortages.
Please know that our cafeteria manager and district nutrition staff are working diligently to address these challenges.
Thank you for your patience.
GCPS TRANSITIONS TO MASKS 'STRONGLY RECOMMENDED':
Throughout the pandemic, GCPS has made adjustments to its mitigation strategies as circumstances have changed, and does so again, based on new guidance and the prevention steps announced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Friday, Feb. 25. As part of the announced changes, the CDC is dropping its recommendation for universal school masking and instead will recommend masking only in communities at a high level of risk.
IN CASE OF INCLEMENT WEATHER...
-Visit the GCPS website for updates on school closings: https://www.gcpsk12.org/
-In the event school being canceled due to inclement weather students will follow our plan for digital learning found below.
OUR PLAN FOR DIGITAL LEARNING IF & WHEN NEEDED:
We continue our committment to maintain in-person instruction. However, in the event that there is a need to temporarily pivot to digital learning we want to be certain that each student has access. Our teachers and students are ready IF we need to make this change.
In the event we temporarily transition to digital learning, Coleman Middle will implement our typical digital learning day plan and schedule.
As a reminder:
Teachers will post a lesson for students to complete in Google Classroom - Humanities, Math, Science, and Connections. Students may log on at any time during the day to complete the lessons posted in Google Classroom; live instruction will not take place.
Teachers will be available via Zoom (Zoom link found on every teacher's eCLASS page) at the following times to answer questions:
6th grade - 10:15 - 10:45
7th grade - 11:00 - 11:30
8th grade - 12:30 - 1:00
Connections - 1:15 - 1:45
Beginning on 1/6, homeroom teachers surveyed students to determine if a device would be needed for digital learning. If your student still needs a device, please tell her/him to speak to their homeroom teacher or call the front office at 678-407-7400.
Please remember that students and families will be responsible for lost or damaged devices.
