A message from Mr. Ryder
Dear Overlook Families,
As we approach the season of Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for your support throughout the school year. Your partnership has been instrumental in creating an environment that is safe, kind, and responsible for our students.
As we head towards Thanksgiving break, I encourage you to take time to reflect on the blessings in your lives and express gratitude to those who have made a difference. May this time of year be filled with warmth, joy, and cherished moments with loved ones.
Thank you for being an integral part of our school community. Wishing you and your families a very happy and meaningful Thanksgiving!
Sincerely,
Mr. Ryder

First, I would like to tell you how truly grateful I am for each of you and your children. They are amazing and bring a smile to my face every day!
At the beginning of the month, my lessons focused on making sure students are safe online. Students learned what is safe to share, making sure when it is time to put their device away they are responding in a safe, kind way, how to "THINK" (is it true, helpful, inspiring, necessary, or kind to say), and to find the balance between using devices and interacting/playing with people face to face. Students were encouraged to talk with their grown-ups at home to see what their adult says is safe to share and ask what their rules or boundaries are if they are unaware when using devices. They were also told if they come across something that makes them uncomfortable or someone saying something hurtful they tell their trusted grown-up right away.
The rest of this month my lessons are focusing on gratitude which aligns with the districtwide Character Strong curriculum. Each class gets to hear a story and participate in a discussion and an activity all centered around being grateful. The classes I have gone in so far this week have all been challenged to tell someone at home or school that they are grateful for them.
On November 7th K-4 Counselors held a Parent/Guardian Night focusing on the topic of Healthy and Unhealthy Friendships. If you were unable to attend, but would like more information or have questions please contact me.
4th graders created comic strips on how to be a Super Digital Citizen online.
3rd graders learning about how powerful words are, especially when interacting with others online.
