Mount Si HS Counseling Newsletter
Winter 2023/24 Update
Almost Halfway to Summer!
Each quarter, the counseling office sends out a newsletter focused on academics, college and career readiness, and social and emotional support. We aim to provide information on community resources, upcoming events for families, and ways the counseling department can help support you in these three important areas. We look forward to working with you this year!

Meeting With Your Counselor
Meet our Substitute Administrative Assistant for the Career Center - Mrs. Silverman!
She is the smiling face when you enter the College and Career Center. Here is a little bit about her:
I grew up in San Diego and received a BA in Psychology from UCLA. I have a Master's degree in Organizational Management and worked in college admissions for over 15 years. My husband and our three kids moved here 11 years ago from San Diego. We live in Snoqualmie and have two MSHS graduates and a current MSHS freshman. I love hiking, traveling, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
Meet our Substitute Counselor (last names Le-Pa) - Mrs. Kitterman!
I am excited to be joining the Mount Si Counseling team while Carissa Thomas is on leave!
My husband and I have been part of this beautiful valley community for over 20 years now. We feel so fortunate that our three children have had the privilege to be part of the Snoqualmie Valley School District. One graduated from Mount Si last year and is now loving college life at Western Washington University, another is a junior at Mt. Si who's taking a couple classes at the high school and participating in the Running Start program at Bellevue College, and the youngest is an 8th grader at Snoqualmie Middle School.
I have an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Western Washington University and a Master of Arts Degree in Education Counseling from Seattle University. Professionally, I've served as a counselor at Fall City Elementary School and Opstad Elementary School, and I've been an active volunteer in various capacities throughout the valley. During my Masters training, I completed my practicum at Shorewood High School, and I am looking forward to having the opportunity to work at the high school level again.
In my free time, I love to spend time with my family and friends and to be outdoors enjoying nature.
I look forward to getting to know all of you and working together to ensure a positive and successful school experience for our students.

Tutoring
Our NHS peer tutoring is completely full with a waiting list right now. To get on the waitlist, students must fill out the Peer Tutoring Request Form. For our community tutoring resources, see the button below!
2nd Semester Schedule Change Requests
There will be a Google Form linked on the Counseling Website on January 19th at 12 pm. Students may request a schedule correction through that form and they will be processed on a first come first serve basis within the schedule constraints. Please note that any request does not guarantee that your schedule will be changed. After a request is submitted your counselor will only communicate if the request CANNOT be completed.
The last day to submit a schedule change request is January 29th, 2023 at 3:00 pm.
Valid reasons for schedule corrections:
- Seniors missing graduation requirements
- Students scheduled in a class they have already completed
- Students enrolled in too many classes or too few classes
- Students who have not met prerequisites for a class
- Students who have a physical/medical reason that prevents participation in class (doctors note required)
Invalid reasons for schedule corrections:
- Desire to have a common lunch or same class with a friend
- Request for a teacher change
- Preference for a different elective
**If you want to add an online class, peer tutor, or office assistant to your schedule, don't fill out this form and schedule an appointment with your counselor.
Please note: It is not an option to drop year-long classes at semester, unless the student failed the first semester of the class in question and the master schedule allows for change.
Running Start - Spring Quarter
If you are a current running start student, Spring quarter is around the corner! Make an appointment with your counselor starting January 16th to get your EVF signed in time to get registered for classes.
Grading Reminder
Semester grades: these are the only grades that will appear on your official transcript. Your transcript serves as your official high school record and will be sent to your post-high school program or school.
Quarter grades: these are updated at the half-way point during each semester. They are a good check to see if you are on track to pass the class, or if you need to put in some extra work or seek outside support to find more success. These are not posted to your transcript.
Make sure to check Student and Family Access after each of these grading periods to see updated grades.
