Getting to know your Board: Trustee Jason Price
What made you want to become a school board member and why?
I have 4 kids, all of which have graduated from Lincoln High School and went on to college. As much as I'd love to take credit for that, I hand most of that to my wife and our incredible staff. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and I owe this village a lot. Now that my kids are out in the world starting their lives, I can give back. I owe this district, and our terrific staff, a debt of gratitude. I'm honored that I can pay it back.
Of the newly adopted board objectives, which one resonates most with you/which one are you most passionate about and why?
I connect most with our fourth objective, Student Safety & Engagement. If you have spent time with me, you will likely have heard me repeat, "We have to give young people real problems to solve." As we move further into programs like Youth Development and Student Senate, I feel like we are getting quite a bit of traction.
What does life outside of being a board member look like for you? How do you spend your free time?
I am active in Leadership Lincoln, serving as both a Steering Committee member and hosting 'Leadership Lessons' at each of the classes. I'm thrilled to see students from both LHS and TBHS in Leadership Lincoln. It has truly changed the program in a positive way. I am a 49ers fan and love, most of the time, watching games. I enjoy reading and learning new things, mostly on YouTube. Lastly, the nerd in me loves tinkering with AI and automation.
Name a personal goal that you would like to see accomplished during your time as a board member.
When I see campus and district projects led by students, I'll know I've helped make an impact. When our local community can purchase goods built by our students and food grown on our farm, we will have arrived. I would like to see more of our young people given greater opportunities to lead.
2023-2024 School Board Objectives
Recently, the Board of Trustees adopted their 2023-2024 Objectives. The School Board exhibited thoughtful consideration and collaborative efforts in adopting their school board objectives that reflect the best interests of WPUSD schools, students, staff and community. The graphic below represents these objectives.

FIRST STUDENT SENATE MEETING📜
In October, we held our first Student Senate meeting at Emmaus Church. It was tailored around building safety and relationships. We went over the data from the youth survey conducted in the spring and plan to move forward addressing areas of improvement based on the data. You can find the results to the youth survey here. Our next meeting is in December.
TRANSPORTATION 🚌
Bus Pass Information
Click HERE for bus pass applications and information on bussing. As a reminder, not all schools offer transportation. Please see the transportation application to see if you qualify (if your child's school is not listed on the application, you do not qualify). Finger Limes = HUGE Hit!
On Tuesday, 10/31, we wrapped up our Harvest of the Month tastings for October. We were able to host tastings at every elementary school by partnering with SPORK food hub and hiring two amazing subs, Sue & Rosemary, to facilitate the tastings. Overall, Finger Limes were a huge hit with our students, and we are excited to see how they like Persimmons in November!
A Little Help in the Kitchen
In celebration of Farm to School Month, we invited our superintendent, assistant superintendents, and board members to be guest servers in our kitchens for a day. A huge thank you to Superintendent Kerry Callahan, CBO Audrey Kilpatrick, Board President April Nitsos, and Board Member Marjorie Proffitt for helping serve this month!
A Few Reminders. . .
Breakfast and lunch menus can be found HERE.
Remember, meals are free regardless of a family's ability to qualify for meals. However, if you are interested in applying for free/reduced meals you can achieve that here.
Want to help your student get through the lunch line faster? Help them practice their lunch number! It is the last 5 digits of their student ID.
RECENT CAMPUS PROJECTS🛝
Over the fall mini break, the M&O team installed a new digital marquee and upgraded the slide on the Kindergarten playground at Lincoln Crossing Elementary!
COVID🤒
COVID Protocols
Please be alert to potential COVID symptoms in your students, and if they have a fever or test positive, please keep your students home and call the school office.
As of right now, there are no changes to the COVID protocols from when the last school year ended. The biggest change will be in how families can find out if there have been any positive cases at their school site. Rather than sending ParentSquare notifications, families wishing to check recent COVID cases/locations can use the tool on the district website HERE. Information on current protocols, including recommended isolation periods and returning to school after a positive COVID test result can be found on this same page.

PORTRAIT OF A LEARNER - PLEASE PROVIDE FEEDBACK!🤔
Earlier this year, we surveyed our school community, staff and business leaders about traits/characteristics they feel are important to develop in students as they grow and develop into young professionals. Based on the feedback we received, and in collaboration with our Portrait of a Learner Committee consisting of students, staff, teacher and administrators, we have come up with a draft for you to review. Please provide feedback on the traits listed below. After we receive input, we will move forward with a final draft. You will soon see a more visually appealing graphic with these traits outlined that will be placed around school campuses. To date, WPUSD is the only district in Placer County to embark on this type of project.
Preamble
At Western Placer Unified School District, we foster a love for learning, develop essential skills, and prepare students to confidently explore the complexities of the world. We empower students to become not only well-prepared professionals but also compassionate and influential citizens who share a brighter tomorrow.
We empower minds and ignite futures by supporting our students to exhibit the following. . .
Portrait of a Learner Traits to Consider:
- Resilience
- Kindness
- Collaboration
- Curiosity
- Integrity
- Critical Thinking
We thank you for your feedback on this important project!
ANNUAL EMERGENCY CONTACT UPDATE/VERIFICATION🚨
Review/Update Your Emergency Contact Information 2023-2024
At the end of last school year, your child's school sent out notifications to update/verify your emergency contact information using your PowerSchool Parent Portal. As a reminder, this needs to be completed by every returning family. Families who recently registered their child for school (new to WPUSD) do NOT need to complete this process.
For instructions on how to access your PowerSchool Parent Portal account click HERE.
ANNUAL NOTICE OF PARENTS' RIGHTS📃
WPUSD Parents' Rights Handouts
State law requires our school district to provide annual notice to a parent or guardian of certain rights and responsibilities. The parent or guardian is required to acknowledge receipt of this notice by signing and returning the "Annual Parent Notice & Acknowledgement Form" to your student's school. Please only complete this form if you HAVE NOT submitted your Emergency Contact Update online, located HERE
COMPLETE THE HOUSEHOLD INCOME FORM🏠
Please Complete a 2023-24 Household Income Form to Help Your School Maximize Its Funding!
DID YOU KNOW?
A portion of every school's funding is determined by the needs of its students. Extra funding is usually distributed to schools based on submitted free/reduced meal applications but this year the state is providing schools with the option of using the Household Income Form. This form can easily be completed online and will provide your school with extra funding. Please note that for the 2023-2024 school year all students are eligible for FREE meals, so extra funding will be distributed differently and the Household Income Form is the best source to increase your school’s funding.
WHY FILL OUT THE FORM?
- additional support staff for schools, like Instructional Aides, Intervention Support Providers, and after school tutors
- more resources for classrooms and teachers
- additional health and wellness services
- fee waivers for college applications
- fee waivers for college admissions exams (i.e. SAT/ACT/AP)
It’s a quick process and only needs to be completed once for each household. By taking the time to fill out this form, you are taking part in a process that might provide thousands of dollars in funds to the school your student attends. You can also access this form when you are updating your Emergency Contact Information and Waiver Forms in your Parent Portal account.
If you need assistance in completing this form please contact your child's school office or the District Office (916) 645-6350 and we can help!
