Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families—
You’ve got to get out and see You Can’t Take It With You. My profile pic today is with Alaynna Bell and Owen Haines, cast as Mr. and Mrs. Kirby. I’d describe Mr. Kirby as a Wall Street Tycoon who spent his life making money at the expense of his happiness. What I enjoyed most about the play is each character was so unique and our actors nailed their roles! The play is set in the 1930’s and is filled with plot twists, relatable family dysfunction, humor, and concludes with, what I would describe as, an uplifting ending that might make you think about your own life! For only $8/seat, and every seat is a great seat, it’s a steal—and well worth it!
Winter Sports season has arrived and that means we’ll be spending the next four months mostly indoors. High school sports are a great place to learn important skills of teamwork, effort, dealing with adversity, managing success, and much more. When I separate the game or competition from the intangibles of sport it reminds me that we always take something away and learn from the experience. You know they say athletics and competition can bring out the best and the worst in a person. Same is true for us parents. I made a huge mistake one time, that I regret, when I texted my sons basketball coach during the game or right after asking if we were just trying to lose? Nothing positive came from it. And I 100% knew better than to do that, I’ve been a coach, I’ve been a school administrator-- and I did it anyways. Hopeful my story can prevent another parent from making the same mistake.
We get occasional reports of “questionable” social media sites that appear to be Ridgeline sites. Here’s some things parents and students can do.
- RHS sponsored pages won’t feature questionable content. Our primary links are at the end of the newsletter.
- Just because page has our logo and name doesn’t mean its associated with us and often times these are anonymously posted and hard to track down responsible parties.
- The more people who report these sites to the appropriate social media platform the better chance they get taken down.
- As always, please continue to report any information to administration.
Looking ahead to next week, we have two full days and a half day Wednesday before Thanksgiving. A detailed bell schedule is below.
Thank you for your support and sharing your great kids with us every day.
Make it a great weekend! --Mr. Hardt
Student Services News
United States Military Academy at West Point Cadet, Jack Dean, will be at RHS on Tuesday, November 22, during 3rd period (10:10). Cadet Dean is a 2020 graduate of Mead High School and is home for the holidays to share his experiences of West Point and the admission process. In a departure from standard practice, this visit is open to juniors and SOPHOMORES, and Mr. Spraggins invited both groups to complete the registration sent out via Google Classroom earlier this week. The reason for the departure is because the West Point admission process begins during the junior year. Registration and signed passes will be required to attend. Please direct any questions you and/or your student may have to Mr. Spraggins (bspraggins@cvsd.org).
ADMITTED!!
As many of you with current seniors likely know, Ridgeline students are now deep into the college admission season, and colleges and universities are admitting more and more of them with each passing week. Below is a word cloud (the larger the school name, the more students have been admitted to that school) that represents a snippet of the schools to which Ridgeline seniors have been admitted. Each week, Mr. Spraggins will add to this list, as your seniors share with him their admit decisions. Please encourage them to complete the Admitted! Google form as they collect their admission decisions, and we will keep this list growing! If you or your student have questions, please contact Mr. Spraggins (bspraggins@cvsd.org).
Sophomore or Juniors- Interested in NEWtech Skill Center?
If you have a Sophomore or Junior interested in learning more about the NEWtech Skill Center, they can sign up for a "Welcome Wednesday" visit by filling out this Google form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScyACJ04EoKm6on2DbMveHzEf6RlrtBuGdJ4oGUD_V2CaQfNQ/view.
“Welcome Wednesdays” allow students to learn about the opportunities available at NEWTech. Students select three programs to explore during their selected “Welcome Wednesday”. Your student will spend some time learning about NEWTech and then about 30 minutes in each program, meeting with current students and instructors.
If your student signs up for a "Welcome Wednesday", please have them register for the morning visit, so they can ride our NewTech Bus with current NewTech students. They will need to be at RHS by 7:25, so they can catch bus #38 (route 226). If your student gets registered, please call the attendance line and report that your student is visiting NEWTech for periods 1-3. This will be an excused absence.
For general information about NewTech Skill Center, please visit their website at https://www.spokaneschools.org/domain/135.
If you have any questions, please have your student see their counselor!
*NewTech is a program open to Juniors and Seniors, so current Sophomores can start thinking about this as an option for their Junior year.
