We are excited to announce that the 2018-2019 OSS Middle High School Yearbook sales have been extended. You may still purchase your yearbook via SCHOOLPAY for $45 today!

We are days away from our 2018-2019 Teacher Appreciation Week! Help us show our teachers how much we appreciate them by signing up for donations found in the link below, there is also a link for monetary donations if you are able to donate. Thank you for your support!

4th Quarter Parent Teacher Conference Nights will take place on Wednesday, May 1st and Thursday, May 2nd. You may begin signing up for time slots today at 4pm. via the link found in this week's newsletter. Be sure to review all the information found in the link.

Orcas as we near the final Assessment Calendar dates, please be sure to review all the dates found in this week's newsletter. We would also like to remind you that May 1st, 8th and 15th will be full school days and we will NOT be following the early release schedule.

We have many exciting events approaching as we reach the end of our 2018-2019 school year! Next week our OSHS SGA will host "Oscar's Eggstravaganza" at the Technology Drive Field, from 3:00-6:00 PM. More details can be found below, we hope to see you there! We will also be hosting our final OSS K-12 PVO Meeting following the event in the OSHS Cafeteria from 6:00-8:00 PM, RSVP using the link below, you will not want to miss this meeting!

Attention OSS Middle High Families, Saturday Leadership Academy and AP Saturday Studies will continue this Saturday, April 20th. Please make every effort to attend in order to be better prepared for upcoming tests.

The OSHS 4th and final Parent Teacher Conference Nights for the 2018-2019 School Year will be held on the dates and times listed above. Please review ALL of the information found in the link below. You may begin signing up for a time slot beginning at 4 PM today.

We will be holding our annual Teacher Appreciation Week during the week of April 29th, 2019-May 3rd, 2019. Below you will find the schedule for the week's events, along with the link of donations needed. • Mr. Yalcin has approved to excuse from school all junior & senior students in good standing AND who have prom tickets on Friday, May 3rd. This will give students time to prepare for their special night.
• Prom volunteers will be doing Prom Prep on Thursday, May 2nd starting after school. Parents and students are encouraged to participate.
• Prom Prep will be held at the house of Lynda C. Please call, text or email for the address.

OCPS District 2 Board Member Ms. Johanna Lopez visited OSHS on Monday this week. Thank you to Ms. Lopez and Dr. Scott for taking the time to visit our campus, we enjoyed having you!

OSS Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society participated in the MAO State Convention this past weekend, alongside students from schools all over Florida. These high schoolers have been preparing for this competition since the beginning of the year, taking several tests based on the math classes they’re in and other topics of their choice. Besides the math aspects themselves, they also participated in a scrapbook contest and trivia night. The students had a great time and performed quite well, with several students and teachers receiving individual and team awards on the state level. Special recognition to our Theta team who received 5th place overall. Additionally, kudos to Ritam B. for receiving first place in Theta Applications. We are very proud of everyone!

The Orlando Science High School Band Program will be hosting their annual Video Game Night on Friday, April 26th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Students are invited to participate and play a variety of video games with their classmates to see who really is the top player. Wristbands for entry will be on sale at the front desk for $5.00 from Monday, April 22nd through Thursday, April 25th. The price will increase on Friday, April 26th to $7.00. Concessions will also be on sale, including pizza, snacks, candy, and drinks. We hope that you can come out and join us for a night of fun!

Barnes and Noble is hosting OSS Elementary School for their Spring Book Fair! The STEAM Awards and Student Showcase are for elementary students but any OSS student and family can attend. Be sure to use the Bookfair ID at checkout, a percentage of your purchase goes back to OSES.

Our very own OSS Science Olympiad Team Rocket is heading to Cornell University to compete in the 2019 National Science Olympiad this May! Come support their trip (and skip cooking dinner) on Monday, April 29th at Panda Express, 2655 East Colonial Drive between 4-8pm. Be sure to tell your server you are with OSS and bring the flyer below so that Team Rocket gets 20% of total sales. See you there!

Come on a journey "around the world" and experience the cultures of: Brazil, Cuba, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, Poland, Puerto Rico, South Korea, Spain, Turkey and the United States.

If you or your family hails from one of the countries, or if you are simply interested in learning more about one of them, please consider contributing as a volunteer. Your time, experience, skills and donations are all appreciated and needed to keep this event authentic and make it a success.

8th-11th Grade Orcas, it is time to request your 2019-20 school year courses! Read the details and click the link below to formally submit your request.

Take time to carefully select possible courses in the order of your preference. Due to class size restrictions, prerequisites and your academic readiness, you may not be assigned the classes you requested. Sometimes, your last choice is the only option that will work when creating a schedule. Therefore, please complete all of the course categories including the contingency (back-up) course offerings. We will try our best to accommodate your requests. All final placement decisions will be made by the administration and guidance departments after reviewing students' end of year grades and test scores.

If you are not satisfied with your schedule or have different needs, please do not hesitate to email Mr. I until the end of the first two weeks of the new school year. Students should check their high school graduation requirements from the Florida Department of Education's website.

Above you will find the 2018-2019 OSS High School Tech Campus Assessment Calendar, please keep these dates in mind when planning any upcoming appointments and vacations. Some general information about graduation:

• Ceremony will run from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, 5/24/19

• Hyatt regency OIA address: 9300 Jeff Fuqua Boulevard, Orlando, FL 32827

• Parking: $4.00 Self-Parking/$7.00 Valet Parking.

• Caps, gowns, and tassels must be worn upon arrival.

• Open Seating for the Audience. Please do not bring more than 4 guests per student. No tickets required.
  

We will be creating a slideshow for the 8th grade graduation. If you would like your student’s picture to be included in the slideshow please follow the directions below:

Hello 8th Grade Technology Drive HS Families,

Graduation for your students will take place on Friday, May 24th 2019 at the Hyatt Regency Orlando International Airport. We understand that this is typically a busy day for our 8th grade families as they prepare for graduation, so for May 24th only we will allow early departure from school. In order for ED to take place you must have the form completed below by 3PM Thursday May 23rd 2018. We will not be accepting any responses after this date. If a response is not submitted your student will be picked up during our regular dismissal time frame. Please keep in mind students must be picked up from the dismissal area beginning from 12:00PM-12:30PM. Please note by signing your student up you are agreeing to pick them up in the dismissal area between 12:00 and 12:30pm if you do not pick your student up at this time you will have to wait until dismissal. No 8th grade student will be permitted to leave through the front office on this day. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Foley at Jennifer.Foley@orlandoscience.org.

The Orlando Science High School on Technology Drive opened its doors to a newly renovated campus in August 2018. One of the great features of the High School campus is the brand new Media Center. It serves as a space where all students can read, research and study. Please consider making a donation directly to the Media Center to help Mrs. Singleton stock the shelves and create a welcoming environment for our students. Dear Orlando Science Lynx Lane and Technology High School Families,

It is time to join the Parent Volunteer Organization (PVO). Membership is $25 per family for returning families and $30 for new families, your membership dues go directly back into the school to provide items and supplies for our teachers. We are also asking that PVO members work with specific committees (School Improvement, Fundraising, Volunteer Work, Teacher Appreciation, Events, Etc.) Please utilize the SCHOOL PAY link below to pay your dues.

If you have questions, comments, or requests, you may email OSS.PVO@orlandoscience.org . A formal PVO committee, including president and vice-president, will be announced at the end of the first quarter of the 2018-2019 School Year. PVO will hold bi-monthly meetings that will inform parents of progress, agendas, and upcoming events.

We are looking for parents or responsible adults over the age of 18 to help during lunch times (approximately 11am-1pm) and during car line before and after school.
