Happy Wednesday!

This sunshine has been a treat for us this week. After the week of smoke and last week's rain, the kids are enjoying being outside for recess (and maybe lunch). The teachers are working with the students on MAP test prep this week. We take MAP testing in the fall and in the spring for students in grades 2-8. This gives us valuable information in the areas of reading, language usage, and math. The results are available to us quickly and can assist the teachers in their planning and differentiated instruction for the year (with each child). The kids are given a goal to work towards for the spring test and we can monitor their academic growth. Each child in grades 2-8 will take the three un-timed tests next week. If they are absent, we will have make-ups the following week. In special circumstances, we can make arrangements for the kids to test at home. This week, they will be able to take short (5 question) practice tests to prepare for next week's full tests. I wanted to update everyone on last week's survey about Extended Care. Here are the results:

Do not want/need Extended Care: 67%
Only want Extended Care for Drop-Ins/Occasional Use: 19%
Want Extended Care Daily: 14%

Unfortunately, with such a limited number of families needing this, we will not be able to have Extended Care this year. It is just not possible to run a program for only 1 or 2 students in each grade. We apologize for the inconvenience this causes and would be happy to assist families in connecting with other families for carpooling options.

From the Development Desk:

This year is going to be an interesting one, in terms of fundraising and events. In order to gain information for planning, I have put together a survey. Please take a few minutes to answer the questions: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/99C2KDN

No Harvest Festival/Trick or Trunk This Year

Sadly, we have had to cancel another community event due to COVID-19. Usually, we have an annual Harvest Festival inside. This year, we were looking at a Trick or Trunk event in the parking lot. We have received guidance from the Tacoma Pierce County Health Dept, however, that Trick or Trunk is a high-risk activity (for transmission of the virus). Therefore, we will have to forego these activities this year. Free Mobile COVID Testing

Mobile testing stations are in the community so people can get tested for COVID-19. These tests are free. Identification is not required. On-site staff can help you register. Results are available in five to seven days. For more information, visit:
