TKE Community Schools Program
FALL 2023 NEWSLETTER
Greetings from the Program Coordinator Ms. Becks!
The Community Schools Program at Talkeetna Elementary is set to return!
On the schedule for the 2023/2024 school year are the popular offerings of Toddler Gym Time, Community & Family Open Gym Time, Friday Family Movie Nights, and Roller Skating. Please read below for details on each program. I'm excited to tell you that this year, activities will be free of charge!
Just before school began in August, I rolled my ankle -- while dancing 🤦♀️💃😎 -- and broke my foot. My healing has been slow, and it is still unclear when I will be back on both feet. Currently, I am using a knee scooter as well as crutches, but I am rather limited with what I am able to do. And what I'm able to carry... and drag around.... and chase down. Alas.
To be able to continue offering the activities we all enjoy, I am asking for volunteers to help me out for the time being. This will mostly be setup and breakdown for Open Gym and Friday Family Movie Nights. I will also need some help with setup, breakdown, and monitoring during Roller Skating. So many people graciously helped with these things as it was last year, I have no doubt there will be plenty of willing, fully bipedal volunteers available. For the sake of planning and organization, I have created an online sign up sheet. Click here to access it, go to https://volunteersignup.org/RK8XR, or scan the QR code below! And thank you, thank you, thank you!
This is YOUR Community Schools Program; it is open to everyone in our community. Please, ALWAYS feel free to contact me with programming suggestions, requests, and feedback. Currently, the best form of contact is through my school email account: rebecca.hrdy@matsuk12.us. I will be setting up a Facebook page and a voicemail inbox soon; I'll share that information when those are ready to go.
Regular Program Offerings
Toddler Gym Time
The Talkeetna Elementary gym and equipment will be open and available for children of toddler age to come and play weekly, on Mondays from 4:30-5:30pm. Toddler Gym Time is flexible, lively, fun, and filled with heart-warming, ear-piercing, rafter-echoing toddler giggles!
Family & Community Open Gym Time
Basketball! Four square! Floor hockey! Badminton! Come join us in the Talkeetna Elementary gym weekly on Tuesdays from 4:30-6:00pm. The gym and the equipment will be available to community members of all ages. Activities will be determined by those in attendance each night.
Roller Skating
I am tentatively planning to start Roller Skating on Wednesday, October 18th, from 3:15-4:15pm. As we did last year, we will do a few, multi-week sessions throughout the school year, each capped at 20 students. The first session will run up until Winter Break, to allow some buffer space for weather-related cancellations and such. Information on registration will be out soon.
Friday Night Movie
The first Friday Family Movie Night will be PG-rated The Nightmare Before Christmas on Friday, October 13th.
👻 🎃 💀
SpOOOooooOOOkkyy!!
Doors open at 6:45pm, popcorn will be poppin' and the movie will start at 7:00.
The ABCs of Better Breathing with Diane Ziegner
Diane Ziegner of Studio Z Yoga will be leading a one-hour class on breathing on Tuesday, October 24th from 6:30-7:30pm. She will teach a few basic techniques to improve breathing. Better breathing can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, improve sleep, and more!!
