SIP DAY - Friday, December 18
Friday, December 18 is a scheduled SIP Day in District 41. ALL students (except for Pre K and K) in both remote and blended learning will participate in learning from 8:30 a.m to 11 a.m. PM classes will not be held due to teachers working on school improvement. No in-person or remote learning will occur in the PM on this SIP day.
NOTE: Pre K and K students will not attend school on this SIP Day
Winter Break Schedule and Saliva Sample Collection
District 41 schools will be closed for Winter Break beginning Monday, December 21 through Friday, January 1, 2021.
District 41 will be in full remote learning on January 4, 5 and 6 while we collect and test saliva samples for the COVID-19 surveillance program. We will send a robo call and an email out the evening of Wednesday, January 6, to confirm returning to blended or not.
Please plan for being back in the blended in-person model on Thursday, January 7.
Please drop off the saliva samples on the following dates/times (at any D41 school):
January 4, 8 a.m. to 6 pm.
January 5, 8 to 10 a.m.
Some reminders about saliva testing:
- Click here for a video about how to provide a saliva sample.
- There are unique bar codes for each individual. Please use the tubes that were provided in the bag with your child's name on it.
- If you recieve a negative test of any kind, but have symptoms, do not attend school in person and call the school nurse.
DCHD Releases Quarantine Update
"DuPage County Health Department (DCHD) advises COVID-19 close contacts to ideally complete a 14-day quarantine period per the CDC-endorsed recommendation. At a minimum, a 10-day quarantine period must be completed; in both options, additional criteria must be met with daily symptom monitoring and continued masking for COVID-19 illness through Day 14. DuPage County Health Department continues to recommend only the full 14-day quarantine period in high-risk, congregate settings, such as long-term care facilities, correctional and detention facilities, and college/university student housing."
Travel Related Quarantine Information
If you plan to travel during winter break (or anytime during the school year), please review and follow the Illinois Department of Public Health travel guidance for quarantines. If you do travel and quarantine related to travel, the days out of school are considered unexcused absences.
If the student misses their in-person (core) part of the day and participates in their remote part of the day it will count as a half day unexcused absence.
If the student.misses both their in-person (core) part of the day and their remote part of the day, it will count as a full day unexcused absence
Teachers will provide work to the students in travel quarantine when they return, but the students will not be moved into full remote learning while they are out of school for quarantines due to travel/vacation/visits with family.
English Learner Testing Begins in January 2021
Students who qualify for English Learner services (ESL and some Dual Language students) will begin testing with the state-mandated ACCESS test in January. Letters will be sent home to qualifying families with more detail. All students, whether receiving ESL instruction remotely or in-person, will be scheduled for test sessions. Testing must occur in-person with a certified teacher. Teams will reach out to families to set-up testing appointments. Students grades 1-8 will need to use their Chromebooks and their personal earbuds to take the test. All recommended safety protocols will be followed during testing sessions.
