Eyes out for Crossing Guards!
When driving near the school...please do so slowly and keep an eye out for students and crossing guards.
This year we have purchased red flashing clip-ons for our crossing guards to use, especially in the morning. We are also testing out flashing sashes.
One thing crossing guards are taught is "High Alert". This is when the Crossing Guards raise their flags to give notice to each other and the vehicles that they are about to cross students. They will then make sure all cars have stopped before heading out into the street. Sometimes crossing guards feel rushed and may forget this step. We are working on reminding them.
Boots guidelines for Recess (Oct-April)
Before snow/cold and when there is a wet/muddy field...
* Only boots on the field.
* Students wearing shoes use the sidewalk and playground area.
Once we have snow on the ground...
* Only boots on the field
* Students wearing shoes may be limited to only the sidewalk
Please make sure your child comes to school with appropriate outerwear for recess, as well as any other outdoor time they have with their class. This means sending your child with a warm coat, hat, gloves/mittens, and boots. While we currently don't have any snow on the ground, snow pants will keep your child extra warm and dry at recess.
New - Staff Shout Out Form
NEW to Lester Park! If you would like to shout out any teacher or staff at Lester Park for going above and beyond, please recognize them through our "Staff Shout Out Form"!
Please try to be as specific as possible when writing your shout outs and please include either the person’s first and/or last name and job title/position. These will be anonymous in our weekly newsletter. Thank you!
STAFF SHOUT OUTS from Families
Kellie Mulliner, Grade 5 Teacher
Mrs. Mulliner is a standout 5th-grade teacher! The activities being done in her classroom are exciting and make my 5th grader want to go to school and learn. For example, this week students brought blankets and flashlights to class to build a reading fort! So fun!!!
Steven Halver, Building Engineer
Thank you for going above and beyond to help our students who sometimes need extra eyes and ears (and very fast legs, bathroom stall openers, and carpet cleaners). Good backup makes all the difference, and Steven is the best.
Dear Families,
Studies have shown that students who are involved in after-school activities feel more connected to their school and have better attendance. Encourage your child to join meaningful after-school activities, including sports and clubs.
If you don’t know what sports or clubs your students’ school offers, be sure to check out the weekly school newsletter sent out on Thursdays around 4pm. At the bottom you will find links to the latest flyers, as well as a link to see previous flyers. You can also find these on our school website under "Enrichment" or by clicking here: School and Community Registrations/Events
When your child participates in after-school activities, clubs or sports they are more likely to have better attendance, as they would have something to look forward to everyday.
Another way of improving attendance is getting into the habit of daily routines. It helps to reduce stress, support learning and makes it easier to connect with friends and teachers.
We are working to make our school environment a place where everyone can be safe, healthy and learning. We will do our best to listen and partner with you so that your children have a successful year.
So let’s work together and help reduce chronic absenteeism.
How to volunteer at Lester Park School...
You can find the information on our school website. Click on "Parents" on the menu bar...then "Family Involvement".
For mini-background checks...
you will only be notified if you do not pass it.
