TIPS Journal December 1, 2021
on the school year so far
Greetings from Tokyo International Progressive School
Hello, and I hope you and your families are well!
To those who could make it to the Autumn Days Mixer, we thank you for coming out and participating. Some families could not attend but sent a refreshment instead. Relationships have to be fed, and we did a good job doing that!
Thanks in advance for your support for our International Day, planned for December 17, and for signing up to send a dish that represents your culture. International Day is a time to recognize our various backgrounds as we feast on a meal like no other. We also recognize with respect the differences of outlooks and cultures of our community. You are invited to come by and share a plate of food with us. We'll get started eating at 11:30 a.m.
At this point, our annual Ski Trip in February is a "go". Your son or daughter is invited along on the three-night trip beginning February 8. We ask that you respond to our email communication this month to confirm their attendance on the four-day trip. For those families that forego the trip, students will be under parental supervision starting around noon February 8 for the rest of the week.
As we have been doing since the pandemic started, in regards to the ski trip, we hope for the best while planning for it, too.
I encourage you to send your son or daughter on this ski and snowboard trip! If they haven't skied or snowboarded before, the instructors there do a good job of instilling confidence. We'll have alternative activities such as snowshoeing, a craft and a nature walk starting on Wednesday for those who prefer to get off the slopes for a while.
Have a bright holiday season and best wishes in the new year. Thanks for reading. Any questions, please ask!
Sincerely,
Lyn Sato

STUDENT COUNCIL REPORT
ATHLETICS
After a three-year absence from the International Schools of Tokyo Athletic Association (ISTAA), the TIPS Wolverines are back in action with a boys volleyball team this season. Though play is limited due to Covid restrictions, the team is playing games against KIST, CIS and a first-time match against DSTY (the German international school).
It's proving to be a steep learning curve since most players are new to the sport but in the second match of the season, the Wolverines did win a game against KIST although they lost the match.
"It's been a great experience and the team has learned to work together," said senior captain Pierce Goodman.
Future games include one at the German school on December 14.
