2024 School of Distinction
Let's celebrate! Young Middle Magnet School has been named a 2024 School of Distinction! As one of the Merit Schools of Distinction for the 2024 awards program, Young will be recognized in the spring at the annual conference in New York City, April 16-20, 2024.
Kona Ice Fundraiser
Kona Ice will be at Young on the following dates:

*Students can purchase Kona Ice during lunch.
Extended Learning Program (ELP) and Tutoring
When: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
Time: 3:40pm to 5:00pm
Subjects: Mathematics, Science, Language Arts, Social Studies
*Transportation is not provided.

Cost: $12.00 per student (cash only payments)

Black History Month Digital Read-In
The Challenge
Hillsborough County Public Schools is hosting a special reading challenge designed to celebrate the contributions and history of Black Americans.
Curated lists of age-appropriate myON titles are available. All students are encouraged to participate by reading as many books on myON as they can during the month of February.
Time spent reading will be recorded automatically withing the myON platform.
School Winners:
The school in each of the regional areas with the highest average minutes read on myON during February will be recognized with a school banner.
Reminder:
If students are reading offline, they should be sure to log back into myON with WIFI before February 29th so their reading activity is included in their school's total minutes read.

Robofest
Parent School Partnership (PSP)
Hillsborough County Public Schools (HCPS) is offering the Parent School Partnership Program (PSP) to empower parents to be advocates and leaders in their schools and to build authentic parent school partnerships.
The PSP Program grew out of need to address the educational inequities faced by the Hispanic community. Today the program is offered in English and other languages.
The PSP Program equips and empowers parents through a 12-week leadership seminar to gain the knowledge to:
¨ participate in their children’s education by learning to navigate the educational system
¨ effectively communicate and overcome language or other barriers and capitalize on individual cultural assets
¨ gain an in-depth understanding of their parental rights and responsibilities
¨ strengthen their relationship with their child’ school staff and administration

Does your student want to participate in a sport?
The following requirements must be completed PRIOR to registration of all student athletes:
*Complete EL2 Physical form
*Purchase mandatory school insurance
*Watch three required FHSAA videos
*Collect important personal documents (e.g., Photo Id, Birth Certificate, Proof of Residence)

"Here Comes the Bus"
"Here Comes the Bus" is an easy-to-use app that enables parents to see the location of their child's school bus on their smartphone. The app will notify parents when the bus is within a mile of their bus stop. For more information, open the attachment below.
Communication
For safety reasons, emergency cards must be returned. All contact information must be kept up-to-date.
*Accurate information is necessary to process bus passes.
*School communication is sent via Parent Link throughout the school year (must have an accurate phone number and email address).
Attendance
Please help your child understand the importance of an education and that daily attendance is essential! Please refer to your child's student Code of Conduct for attendance and absence reporting requirements.

Please leave your child's first and last name AND your own first and last name on the recording.
Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures
Morning drop-off begins-- 8:05 AM. School starts at 8:30 AM.
1. Car rider vehicles drop off in front of the school (Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd). One-way traffic only.
2. Due to safety reasons, students may NOT be dropped off on side streets (17th St, 20th St).
3. Walkers and bike riders use the crosswalks in front of the school.
Afternoon dismissal begins-- 3:25 PM.
Students must be picked up by 3:40 PM.
(Early Release Day dismissal is 2:25 PM. Students must be picked up by 2:40 PM).
1. Car riders: report to the front of the school for supervised departures. One-way traffic only.
2. Due to safety reasons, students may NOT be picked up on side streets (17th St, 20th St).
3. Bus riders: report to the bus ramp when called.
4. Walkers: exit through the gate by the Media Center. Use crosswalks to cross the street.
5. Bike riders: exit through the gate between the gym and the main office building. Use crosswalks to cross the street.
Student Sign-In and Sign-Out Procedures
Sign-in Procedures:
Any student arriving to school after school has begun MUST report to the main office. A tardy pass shall be issued indicating excused or unexcused tardy. Students with excessive UNEXCUSED tardies will be subject to disciplinary action.
Sign-Out Procedures:
During school hours a principal or designee shall permit a child to leave school only in the custody of the following adults:
*LEGAL GUARDIAN OF THE STUDENT, WITH PHOTO ID.
*Person listed on emergency contact card, WITH PHOTO ID.
*A law enforcement officer.
*An authorized worker of the Department of Children and Families.
Students may NOT be signed out after 3:00 PM. Regular dismissal is at 3:25 PM.
On Early Release Mondays, students may NOT be signed out after 2:00 PM. Dismissal is at 2:25 PM.
We appreciate your cooperation as we minimize classroom interruptions at the end of the school day.
Tardy Policy
Students are expected to be in class and beginning bell work when the tardy bell rings.
Random tardy lock-outs will occur throughout the school year.
Students must report to the patio when caught in a tardy lock out.
Students will receive a Tardy Lock Out Alert.
Students will receive a tardy lock-out pass to show to their teacher. Students must show the pass to their teacher to enter the classroom. This form should be taken home to the parent for a signature and returned to the school.
Electronic Device Policy
During school hours and while on the bus, cell phones and other electronic devices are no to be activated or used in any manner. All devices must be stored out of sight.
We see it, We take it.
1st offense: Parent contact (device is returned to student at the end of the school day).
2nd offense: Parent contact (device is returned to student at the end of the school day).
3rd offense: Parent contact, In-School Suspension (parent must pick up the phone).
