Our week in review...
Patriot Day and our PBSIS Carnival
Dear Families,,
Our school community enjoyed a phenomenal week! Monday started us with an age appropriate ceremony honoring the heroes of September 11, 2001. Our custodial staff, led by Mr. Frank Combs, helped place American flags around our school grounds. The ceremony, aided by Ms. Heather Coe, featured a patriotic poem read by 5th graders Chase Inzano and Arabella Pereira, a playing of 'Grand Old Flag', and a statement honoring the men and women whose jobs it is to keep us safe everyday.
Our PBSIS Kickoff Carnival was a rousing success! PBSIS is our school-wide positive behavioral support system that continues to teach our students to be safe, respectful and responsible. The carnival would not have been made possible without Mrs. Tisha Breslow, Mrs. Pauline Cerchio, our PTO, Mr. Walsh (DJ extraordinaire), Ms. Coe, and the rest of our dedicated staff. We held a 15 minute assembly with all of our grade levels to discuss our expectations. Then the students enjoyed the carnival! Over the course of the year, you see and hear our PBSIS initiatives in everything we do. Positive behavioral tickets (ROAR tickets), common staff and student language, positive behavioral posters about the school, consistent student recognition, and other systems will permeate our school.
The establishment, consistency, and reinforcement of our routines and procedures continue related to classrooms, arrival, dismissal, hallways, lunches, and recess. The staff of Walnut Street appreciate your continued patience and eye toward safety with car arrivals in the back of the school and the ferry lanes at dismissal...please continue to enter and exit these lanes in an orderly fashion. We thank you for your help in continuing to reinforce these at home.
Finally, we have a new school Instagram account so please give us a follow @wsewildcats to see all of the school happenings!
On behalf of Ms. Norcross, thank you for being our partners in your child's educational journey. Let's have another great week!
