Schools need to be safe and welcoming places where students come to learn, grow and develop into happy and successful citizens.
Addressing the need for secured entrance improvements in ten of our school buildings is a significant part of the November 7th referendum. View this 60 second video explaining the safety and security needs across the district.
Schools handle a vast amount of sensitive data, including student records, financial information, and personal details. If approved, bond funding will also strengthen cybersecurity protections across the district.
Referendum funding will directly impact the well-being and security of students, staff, and the entire school community. Learn more about the referendum at www.isd77.org/vote2023 and make your plan to vote on or before November 7, 2023.
What Does the Referendum Mean for Kennedy?
Safe and Secure Entrance and Updated Special Education Spaces
Did you know that Kennedy was built in 1966? Kennedy has proudly served our community for nearly 60 years. Times have changed since 1966 and it is time to update the safety and security features at Kennedy so that they meet the needs of our students in 2023. The new entrance at Kennedy would create space that has families check in at the office first before being able to bypass the office. Our entrance would become very similar to Rosa Parks and Prairie Winds. This is a crucial step in securing our building and being able to directly connect with every visitor to our school.
Kennedy families, please make a plan to get out and vote! Early voting is already open. Visit www.isd77.org/vote2023 to learn more!

Current Front Entrance at Kennedy
This front entrance has served the community since 1966.
Inside the Front Entrance at Kennedy
The vestibule at Kennedy is not a secure entrance. Upon being buzzed in, visitors have access to the school building rather than just the office.
Front Lobby at Kennedy
Once a visitor passes through the vestibule, they can access hallways and classrooms rather than the office.
Renderings of the New Secure Entrance at Kennedy
The new safe and secure entrance will be built off the front of the building facing East Main Street. The vestibule remains in the same area. Visitors to the school will have to turn left into the office upon entering the school and check in before accessing any part of the building.
Zoom in on this diagram to get a better understanding of how the new entrance to the building moves visitors from the vestibule into the office. This diagram also shows all of the remodeling that would be done to Kennedy when the referendum passes.
