Principal's Message
Thomas families,
Thank you for joining us for Parent-Teacher Conferences this month. It’s such an important time to connect with your child’s teacher, and get a small glimpse into a day in the life at elementary school. I hope you walk away from that time together feeling comforted that your child has a caring adult in their corner, who knows them well and wants to help them grow and be successful.
Also- big thank you to the GTES PTO for providing meals to our staff on those late nights. Thank
you, thank you!
Go Tigers,
Melissa Garris
COGAT TESTING FOR GRADES 2 AND 4
During the month of March, students in second and fourth grade will be administered tests of cognitive abilities (CogAt). Testing in this area is a requirement by the Ohio Department of Education. At Thomas, fourth graders will test on March 5 and 6 and second graders will test on March 11 and 12.
This assessment gives us an additional perspective of a student’s profile. Additionally, the results are used to determine gifted identification. Scores that meet a set criteria may lead to further assessments, which will be shared with families. Families will receive test results when they are made available from the testing company.
If you have any questions about this assessment, please contact our school’s Gifted Intervention Specialist, Katie Guehl, at guehl_katie@dublinschools.net.
Winter MAP Student Data
The MAP assessments give us the ability to measure student achievement and academic growth across time. Students participate in the MAP Reading and MAP Math assessments three times a year (grades 1-8). The MAP 2-5 and MAP 6+ assessments allow us to identify students as gifted in the areas of math and/or reading. MAP scores in the 95th-99th percentile meet the Ohio Department of Education requirements for gifted identification. Students scoring in the range for a gifted identification will be supported in their regular classroom setting through high-quality, differentiated instruction. MAP results are now visible to parents in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Please follow the steps below to find your child's fall MAP results. Additional information about MAP can be found here.
