Accelerated Reader 24-25

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a program designed to encourage students to read. AR quizzes test students' comprehension of books they have read using an online computer program.

AR tests can only be taken at school. Students may take tests in the classroom, in the computer lab, and in the library (with their teacher's permission). If your child reads a book from home, please send a note with the title and author to help your child find the correct test, or you may send the book to school. Testing will be open Monday - Friday 7:40 - 3:00. Only tests taken from August 12, 2024 - April 17, 2025, will count towards end-of-the-year goals.

Yes! Our school subscribes to an online AR program which means our students have access to every AR test available.

Your child's teacher assigns a point goal to each student in grades 1-4 for the month based on his/her reading level. Kindergarten students must read 10 books at home each month to reach their monthly goal. Your child's teacher can give you more information.

Most books in our school library have an AR test available. Those books are marked to show they have a test. Ask your librarian for more details.

Each book has a point value which is the maximum number of points that can be earned from that book if the student scores a 100% on the quiz.

To get the full amount of points available for each book, all questions must be answered correctly. Partial credit is awarded for answering most of the questions correctly.

These goals are for the school year starting August 14th and ending April 17th. Kindergarten students do not take AR tests but do participate by reading 10 books at home each month. First-grade students begin AR testing during the month of January.

****To be eligible for end-of-the-year prizes students in grades 1st - 4th must maintain a minimum test average of 75%****

1 bookcharm is awarded for every 10 books read at home each month. Students do not test on the books.

Bronze: 2 - 3 bookcharms, Silver: 4-6 bookcharms, Gold: 7 or more bookcharms

First - 4th Grade levels are based on the number of times a student achieves their individual point goal from August to April.

• Students will receive a book charm each time their monthly goal is met.
  
• At the end of the school year students will be awarded medals based on their achieved goal.
  
• .The Top 10 students in grades 1st - 4th will be recognized at the grade level end-of-year program. This will be determined by the number of points the students earn throughout the year.
  

• Students K-4 who meet the Bronze-Diamond levels will be invited to attend the end-of-year event. The time students spend at the event will be based on the level they achieve.

• Platinum and Diamond students will spend the most time at the event and, qualify for special events, and be provided lunch.
