Walnut Street Wildcat Newsletter
Wildcat Weekly!
Dear Wildcats,
We started our week with two delayed openings due to inclement weather. We ended the week with today's snow day. After last year's very warm and non-snowy winter, it was wonderful to finally see! Communication is key in these situations. Please note we are using automated calls, ParentSquare, and our school's Instagram account to communicate weather related issues that may affect opening times. If you have not done so already, please download the ParentSquare app and follow us on Instagram to receive important information. If you are not receiving the automated calls from the school district, please contact our main office.
For the week ending January 12, 4 of 5 of our grade levels showed attendance improvement from the previous week. Grade 3 once again led the way for daily average attendance, gaining a 95.08% mark! Both grade 2 and grade 4 reached 94% last week. Kindergarten was the grade level that showed the most improvement, gaining almost 2 percentage points from the previous week. As a school, we increased our average daily attendance to 93.5%....strive for 95!
We were again visited by Young Audiences this week. Our 2nd and 3rd grade students enjoyed an incredible assembly that focused on music and dance.
We honored our Students of the Month for December on Wednesday Night. Congratulations!
Staff PBSIS winners were Ms. Pedone and Mrs. Tighe! Because of the snow day today, we will pull our student winners on Monday. Please see below for information related to our school-wide PBSIS fundraiser that will benefit our entire school.
Please note that February 16 will be a staff only day. On February 19, all schools are closed for President's Day.
Have a great weekend...stay warm!

Mental Health and Wellness Parent Academy Survey
Toms River Regional Schools Mental Health & Wellness Committee is planning to offer a series of workshops to help support parents and caregivers of students by providing them with learning experiences that will deliver information and resources on topics of interest in support of promoting healthy social and academic development. This survey will assist district leaders in evaluating topics of interest to best plan to meet the needs of families across the district. Please access the survey here.
PBSIS Committee - Estimation Station!
The PBSIS Committee will be holding an estimation station on Tuesday and Wednesday during our school lunches. For $0.25 a guess, your child can make an estimate on how many mini marshmallows are in a jar. Your child can have multiple chances. For example, if your child would like to make four guesses, that is only $1.00! If you would like your child to participate, please send the money, in a labeled envelope, with your child to school. All proceeds go directly back to our students and staff. The winner will be announced on Wednesday afternoon and will receive a S'mores Kit!
We truly appreciate your support!
