RES Weekly Buzz
Highlights of the Week
• Preschool has been learning about holidays celebrated around the world. Mrs. Tina's class recently enjoyed learning about Hanukkah and playing the dreidel game! Mrs. Marshall's class is in the midst of an author study of Laura Numeroff, and they made a giant class cookie and opened up a hot cocoa stand!
• Our kindergarten students have been very busy reading different versions of gingerbread stories. This week, they compared and contrasted what happened in each and decided which story was our favorite and why. The children then transformed the classroom lofts into life-sized gingerbread houses by decorating them with sweet treats made from paper.
• First graders were busy learning addition and subtraction strategies. These mathematicians are now pros at using a tens frame and number line and making a ten to solve larger addition and subtraction problems. In ELA, they enjoyed reading and listening to stories about kindness and teamwork.
• Second graders made holiday cards for the local nursing home to spread holiday cheer to those living there.
• Third graders have been practicing multiplication strategies, reading poetry, and learning about winter holidays celebrated worldwide.
• Today, our fourth graders hosted their first-grade buddy classrooms and made holiday ornaments. They made doves, hearts, and colorful medallions.
• Our fifth graders have been busy learning about the water cycle and have an evaporation lab set up right now, taking measurements and data, and making observations.
