FROM DOAN'S DESK...
Just a quick reminder that there are a couple of days off from school for students in the coming weeks. This Monday, September 25th, and then again on Monday, October 9th students DO NOT have school due to professional development days for BVSD staff. The only other week that is interrupted like this is on Friday, November 10th for Veteran’s Day. Otherwise, it’s a pretty long stretch in the fall from the beginning of school until school is out for an entire week at Thanksgiving break at the end of November. We hope that students are able to enjoy the day off on Monday next week and then we will get back after it with all of our academics, athletics, and activities.
Thanks and have a great weekend…Sko Yotes!

MONARCH'S YEARBOOK AND THE MIX INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP SEMIFINALISTS
Landon Crain, Alexander Darnow, Zach Dykstra, Jonah Kim, Leif Petricka, and Kelsey Wolf recognized as Semifinalists
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and college scholarships that began in 1955. The National Merit® Scholarship Program honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 320 business organizations and higher education institutions. About 1.3 million juniors in more than 21,000 high schools entered the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2022 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.
Landon, Alexander, Zach, Jonah, Leif, and Kelsey are six of approximately 16,000 Semifinalists in the 69th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.
These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $28 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. About 95 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title.
Congratulations Landon, Alexander, Zach, Jonah, Leif, and Kelsey!!!
For more information about the competition, please visit NMSC’s website at www.nationalmerit.org.

DISTRICT PARENT COUNCIL (DPC)
District Parent Council (DPC) is excited about the upcoming school year! We are looking for a parent from the Monarch High School community who may be interested in joining this council.
What is DPC?: District Parent Council is a group of parents who collectively meet with BVSD leaders once per month to discuss topics, upcoming decisions, and current events regarding our schools and the district. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and engage directly with the superintendent and other key BVSD decision-makers.
For more information, send an email to our chairs (Gena.Welk@gmail.com, Alexa.Rivera@bvsd.org, sarah.j.boonstra@gmail.com) or see our DPC webpage.

PORTRAITS FOR ALL
“Portraits for All” believes that every high school senior deserves to have a high-quality senior portrait that they are proud of. We connect students who aren't in a financial position to pay for a portrait session with professional photographers in their area who are willing to donate their time and talent. Any rising high school senior in the Boulder/Denver metro area who qualifies for free or reduced lunch or can demonstrate financial need through another avenue (such as referral by a high school liaison) is eligible to request a session. We will do our best to match you with a photographer if one is available near you.
