Internet Safety Assembly
On Tuesday, October 11, all students attended an Internet Safety Assembly put on The San Diego Police Foundation. It proved to be very interesting and thought provoking. I'm sure if you were to ask your child about the assembly, they will have no recollection that they even attended. Try asking your child the following questions regarding the assembly:
What is the legal age to have a social media account? (13yr)
Name three things that can go wrong on your social media account?
Name three things you should do to protect yourself on social media?
If they can't answer, then read this two minute article with your children to generate more conversation.
Teaching Kids To Be Smart About Social Media
If your child has a bad experience on Social Media and does not know how to handle it, please have them check in with one of our amazing school counselors. We also STRONGLY encourage parents to review their child's social media pages on a regular basis.
SOCTOBER
Builders Club is hosting a Socktober event. We are having a sock drive for the homeless here in San Diego. Please bring your new or very gently used socks to your 5th period class. Sock drive starts now and goes through October 21st. The class that brings in the most socks wins a goody bag prize. Last year we donated over 900 pairs of socks lets see if we can make it 1000!
LCFF Form Update in Parent Portal
We got a significant increase to LCFF forms due to rewarding students with their ID card. We have less than 200 students to complete. Great job! We cannot accept forms after October 25th. We have sent home paper forms for students who did not complete via Parent Portal.
We need to get to 100%. To update this form, you must access it on a desktop or laptop. It is not accessible by mobile phone. It just takes less than a 30 seconds under the forms section. Completing this secures critical funding for our school. Last year, our school recorded that 44% of our families qualify for Title 1 funds. This brings in over $100K in funding to De Portola. If you need support accessing Parent Portal, please email Mr. Hamilton at ehamiltonjr@sandi.net.
Late Activity Bus
The late bus will be available for students beginning Monday, September 26. The late bus is offered on Mondays and Wednesdays for students. Students who choose to stay must make arrangements with a staff member for a club or tutoring. Students must present their Z Pass to ride the bus home.
Reporting absences
Absences outside of illness such as death in the family, military deployment leaves, injuries, regular appointments such as doctor, dentist, and orthodontist are excused. Absences outside of the above listed examples should be reported as "personal reasons, non-Covid related". Thank you for your honesty with reporting absences. We are far more concerned about the health and safety of our students and staff than we are with unexcused absences.
Please call the office at 619-605-4800 and press 3 or email Miss Dora at dbriggs@sandi.net for all absences.
