Principal's Message (Ryan Horne, Principal)
Broken Arrow continues to implement the following initiatives to target specific areas for improvement as part of our building improvement plan. Accredited Kansas schools must identify areas in need of improvement and utilize research based strategies and interventions to improve these areas. Please check out the table below to better understand what we are doing, why we are doing it, and how we are monitoring progress at Broken Arrow.

PTA President's Message
Dear Broken Arrow Families,
The Broken Arrow PTA had a busy October! We had a great turn out for Donuts with Dads. A huge thank you to everyone who helped! The PTA also helped Mr. Strout in the library with the Book Fair. It was great to see so many parents encouraging reading while supporting the school by purchasing from the book fair. The School of Excellence committee has also been hard at work creating a game plan for what will be the goal of the PTA for the year. We have had such a great October, and I am so encouraged that November will be just as productive and great! Please join us for our next general PTA meeting on Thursday November 7th at 6:30 to hear what we have planned for the rest of the semester.
Thank you for your support for the PTA!

-ALL of 3rd grade will be taking class group photos
-Students who were absent on Picture Day or new to Broken Arrow since October 2nd will have their picture taken.
-If you would like your student to have picture re-takes, please remember to send their original picture packet with them that day. The photographer will not re-take pictures without that packet.
Extra order forms are available in the school office.
Recess Guidelines
It’s only the beginning of Fall, but we all know how fickle Kansas weather can be!
Per District policy, there will be no outdoor recess when:
· The temperature is 15 degrees or below
· The wind chill index is 0 degrees or below
· There is falling moisture
The only other time your child would not go outside for recess would be with a doctor’s note.
Nurse's Notes
When should I keep my child home from school?
- If your child has a fever of 100 or above, vomiting and/or diarrhea, they should stay home for at least 24 hours or until your student is completely well. Please note they have to be fever free without fever-reducing medications. Even though your student is feeling better, they still can pass the virus/illness to other people.
- Contact the attendance line 913-993-2388 if your child will be absent for an illness and mention what symptoms your child has for the nurse.
- If your child becomes ill at school with a fever of 100 or above, vomiting and/or diarrhea, they will need to go home. Keep your phone number and emergency numbers up-to-date so we are able to contact you. If you will be unable to pick your student up during the school hours, please have an emergency contact available as a backup.
Thank you for your cooperation in these matters,
Jamie Knight
Nurse at Broken Arrow Elementary
Birthday Billboard
This is a special bulletin-board in the Multi-Purpose Room that everyone can see during lunch and assemblies. Every month the Birthday Billboard gets updated with the birthday’s for that month.
For a $5 donation your child will have the opportunity to have their name up for everyone to see for an entire month!
We don’t forget the summer birthdays—if your student has a Birthday in late May, June, July and early August—their names will be displayed on their “1/2 Birthday” month.
Forms will be available in the office year round. Please contact Sarah Alberico with any questions at sarahalberico18@gmail.com
Box Tops For Education
Our first turn in for the school year will be on November 1st. Please remember to send in your trimmed non expired box tops. You can also use the new App so you don’t have to worry about clipping the new ones! Box tops are the EASIEST way for our school to get extra money. Every clip counts and it adds up!
Donuts with Dads!
Scholastic Book Fair
Thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers that helped out at our book fair! Although we had to be flexible due to schedule changes that were beyond our control, several students were able to enjoy the book fair. As I write this, I haven’t received an official word on how many Scholastic Dollars our library received, but I believe it will be enough to allow us to purchase some new books for our library.--Mr. Strout
