3rd Six Weeks Report Cards
The 3rd six weeks report cards posted on January 11th. An important piece in the family-school partnership is staying aware of student performance. It is requested that parents view and electronically sign progress reports and report cards. See the directions below, and be sure to get those signatures in! In addition, parents are encouraged to regularly view grades in Skyward.
Play it Safe
Play It Safe is a child safety program that educates children how to identify and prevent abuse and empowers children in grades Kinder-2 to practice safe behavior. This program also offers resources to help parents, caregivers and teachers protect children by teaching and practicing the 3-part rule of personal safety. Play It Safe was created by The Women’s Center of Tarrant County. This program has been presented to thousands of children in the Texas Hill Country since 2013. This information is presented through videos, workbook activities and classroom discussion.
What to Expect
Through age-appropriate stories elementary school students learn to recognize the three kinds of touch and are empowered with tools to respond using the 3-part safety rule if they are ever in an uncomfortable situation. This safety rule can be applied to many circumstances that students may encounter, such as bullying, online situations, peer pressure or exploitation by friends/family. The safety rule encourages assertive responses, whether it is used with strangers or someone the child knows and loves. The presentation format is classroom-based so that children are in a familiar environment and able to focus and interact freely. Each presentation lasts approximately 30 minutes and includes an age-appropriate interactive conversation with a 10-20-minute movie.
Families can also view more information at www.playitsafe.org.
Play it Safe presentations will be made on February 6th and 7th at SGE. Your child brought home an information sheet and permission form for the “Play it Safe” Program. Please sign and return this form as soon as possible. Contact the school counselor, Shannon Franklin, with any questions. sfranklin@burnetcisd.net or 512.756.2126

Attendance Incentives!
Today we celebrated students who earned “Responsible Attendance” for the 3rd six weeks with a snowball fight, S’mores snack, and a new brag tag! This designation is earned by having no more than 1 absence OR 1 tardy for the six weeks.
The 4th six weeks is a clean slate and brings a new opportunity to earn the 4th six weeks incentive which is a Pop Party (popcorn, ring pops and soda pop)!
SGE Attendance Tracking
SGE's ADA for this past week was 95.8%. We're so happy to see it back up in the nineties! Before the Christmas break, we dropped down to 88%! We're hopeful for a healthy semester!
ADA stands for Average Daily Attendance and is defined as the total days of student attendance divided by the total days of instruction. "98 IS Great!", so 98% is our goal!
Announcing the 2023-2024 SGE Teacher of the Year!
Shady Grove Elementary is proud to announce Tiffany Myers as the 2023-2024 Teacher of the Year! Mrs. Myers is making her mark as a 2nd grade teacher and as a teacher leader on campus. She is a reflective educator and values staying current on best instructional practices. She humbly collaborates with her teammates and is willing to both share ideas and consider new ones. Her wisdom, her relationships, and her graceful way with words all contribute to her effectiveness in the classroom with her students and with her colleagues. She creates a welcoming classroom culture with her gentle manner in working with students, and she is driven to help ALL students reach their highest potential. Her positive attitude and smile have outreaching influences. Mrs. Myers is a blessing to Shady Grove Elementary, and we are proud to have her on our team!
Habit Heroes
During the 4th six weeks, Shady Grove teachers will be looking for students who exhibit Steven Covey's Habit #4, Think Win-Win! This habit focuses on collaboration for mutual benefit! I win and YOU win!
Be sure to check our Facebook page for pictures of the Habit Heroes for the 3rd six weeks!
Notification of Student Absence
A parent must provide an explanation for any absence within 5 days of the student’s arrival or return to school. The student must submit a note signed by the parent. The campus may accept an email from the parent sent to the school’s attendance clerk, but reserves the right to require a written note. The form below will send an email to SGE's Attendance Clerk and then the campus will determine whether to classify the absence as excused or unexcused.
