A Message from Our Principal
We are now a month into school, and all the school activities that make Tuscumbia awesome are in full swing. This week, we are continuing with even more activities as it is Homecoming! Homecoming is always an exciting time, but this year it is even more special as we are celebrating our centennial anniversary. As an alumni, I have experienced first hand how exceptional this place truly is. I encourage everyone- parents, students, employees- to attend all the festivities this week and experience what makes Deshler the best place to attend school, work, or send your kids.
Homecoming is about pride and tradition. At Deshler, we have always been proud of our traditions and the fact that we are more than a school- Deshler is a legacy. It is my job to continue the legacy set forth by those before me. We want to do that in every aspect of school- academics, athletics, and the arts. If you haven’t been able to tell, I am extremely proud of our school and everything it encompasses. I believe we are the best, and I am thankful for the opportunity to help our students grow in the best way possible.
September is attendance awareness month, and the first step in accomplishing anything special is being present. Research shows that students who regularly miss school are more likely to struggle academically and even beyond the classroom post-graduation. There is nothing that can make up for missed time in front of a highly qualified teacher. Please be aware of our district’s attendance policy located in the Tuscumbia City Schools’ Code of Conduct. It is my hope that you will see all the great things that are going on in Tuscumbia, and we will not be able to keep you or your child away. Tuscumbia City Schools was so good to me that I did everything I could after graduating high school to come back. I want our students to have that same pride.
