GMS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 16, 2024
Good afternoon Wolf Pack Families,
We are officially 5 weeks into the 3rd marking period! I cannot believe how fast this school year is going. It's been a great week at Geisler. On Thursday afternoon, our 3 high school vocal music students/directors visited our school for the annual "Name of Love" tour. Inspirational songs are performed promoting peace, love and tolerance. Our GMS 6th grade vocal music students got to sing along for one of the songs as well. So proud of all of our students (past and present) that were a part of this great event.
There are a lot of great things happening when we all get back from Mid-Winter Break. Please see the announcements below to start getting dates onto your calendar!
Wishing you all a fantastic break!
Sincerely,
Stuart Riley
Principal, Geisler Middle School

5th Grade Parent Night @ GMS
If you have a 5th grade student who will be attending Geisler Middle School next year, adult family members are encouraged to attend this informative evening on how your student can have a successful Middle School experience at Geisler.
High School 8th Grade Family Night
No matter which WL High School your child attends, they will be in great hands. On Tuesday, March 4, your 8th grade child and family members may visit the HS they will be attending next year to find out more about the 9th grade curriculum, clubs, sports and extra-curricular activities.
The Geisler Chronicles
The snow days placed a little delay in the publishing of our “January” issue of The Geisler Chronicles, but it is now out and we have everyone covered with some sweet dessert recipes, an overview of the iReady incentive program, a review of a new Korean restaurant in Novi, lots of K-Pop reviews, along with some of our regular content including the return of our student showcase from the GMS art room! Check it out at http://bit.ly/GeislerChronicles
DC Trip Update
Students who needs to take medication (prescribed and over-the-counter) must have a district medication form completed. These forms were distributed this week in social studies classes and can be found here (overview information & form). Except in extenuating circumstances, the completed forms with a physician signature are due back to Mr. Yu by Monday, April 1st.
The DC Trip Spring Parent Meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 17 at 6:30pm in the GMS Cafeteria. The purpose of this meeting is to go over trip expectations, packing information, review the itinerary, meet chaperones, and ask final questions. More information to come. Students will have a pre-departure meeting the day prior to the trip during school.
Please contact Mr. Yu (TorryYu@wlcsd.org) with any additional questions you may have.
Computer Science Discovery with Maya Prep
Maya Prep is hosting a FREE after school enrichment for students who are interested in computer science, coding and web design. At the end of the sessions, students compete for CASH PRIZES in a "Hack-a-thon" for the best "technology project." These classes are taught by community members who work in the technology field. This was a huge hit with our students last year. Please see the flyer below for more information and course dates. It is important that students have reliable transportation when the class ends. Students must be pre-registered in order to attend the classes. Please see the attached flyer for registration information. First class will begin March 5.

Weekend Food Program-Hospitality House
Supporting and caring for our students in any way possible is our mission at GMS. Geisler MS recently partnered with Hospitality House Food Pantry in Walled Lake to bring the Weekend Food Program to our students. If you are a family that could use a little extra help with meals on the weekends, please let your child’s counselor know. Your child’s name will be held confidential. The Weekend Food Program would provide approximately 6 meals and snacks for your student on the weekend. The food would be distributed to your student in a discreet bag or backpack for them to take home each Friday. There is no cost to participate in the program. To optimize a student’s success at school starts with students having enough to eat. Please see the attached flyer for more information about the Weekend Food Program. If you are interested in having your student participate, please contact your student’s counselor Ann Marie Rutherford (Counselor for 6th Grade Students (A-L) and ALL 8th Grade Students) annmarierutherford@wlcsd.org or 248-956-2917 or Amanda Hart (6th Grade Students (M-Z) and ALL 7th Grade Students) amandahart@wlcsd.org or 248-956-2916.
