Information from Mrs. Bosworth
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are grateful for another great week here at the Dewing School. Earlier this week, we had a wonderful Open House with First and Second Grade.
Lunch/Recess-We made a small change to our lunch and recess routines this week. Each grade level is now eating together as a large group. Due to the number of students we have, our grades then split for recess. Homerooms are on a weekly rotating schedule. One week, they have access to the playground and the next week, they have access to our open space on A Wing. Students have adjusted well to this change and are really doing a great job learning routines.
If your child is sick: Our Handbook states that absences can only be excused with a doctor's note. If your child is sick, their sole focus should be on getting better. Students are not expected to do makeup work during their absences. The teacher will provide the necessary work upon their return.
Reading Screening: Our reading team has been working hard to baseline students in grades K-2 using the DIBELS screening. This screening is an approved dyslexia screener. Once the screenings have been completed, our teams will use this information to make instructional decisions based on the needs of the students.
Wearable Devices/Toys: We continue to ask that students do not bring wearable devices (watch phones, cameras etc) or toys to school. If they are brought to school, we will ask children to turn them off and put them in their backpacks. These items are a big distraction in the classroom.
Ice Cream Social-On Friday, September 23rd, our PAC is hosting an Ice Cream Social. We hope to see our friends there. They will have a sensory friendly time as well as popsicles for students with allergies. Please see the flier.
Dewing Site Council-We are still looking for volunteers to participate in a monthly site council meeting. We plan to meet on the first Wednesday of the month from 3:30-4:30. We can do this meeting virtually. Please email me at abosworth@tewksbury.k12.ma.us
