Week in Review
It's the end of week nine and we're doing fine. There's a chill in the air and on Monday, campus will be filled with little ghouls and goblins. As a reminder, Monday, October 31st, is a MINIMUM DAY. School is dismissed at 12:00PM. Right after school, students and their families are invited to attend "Trunk or Treat" on the blacktop, hosted by our PTA. The event takes place from 12-1PM and students must be supervised by an adult unless they're in PrimeTIme. We are so excited to bring this tradition back to the Fletcher community.
This past week was full of celebrations, learning, and service. On Tuesday, Principal Friedenberg and our former, and now happily retired Wellness Coordinator, Becky Paradise, represented Fletcher Elementary at the SDUSD Board of Education meeting as the school was one of 14 in the district recognized for being named one of America's Healthiest Schools by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation.
Wednesday, our teaching staff joined with five other Kearny Cluster schools at Juarez Elementary for an afternoon of professional learning focused on creating and sustaining a restorative classroom community. This learning revolved around deepening our understanding of the core circle guidelines, the framework from which Restorative Practices is based.
Thursday, Fletcher partnered with local non-profit, Champions for Health, in hosting a free Flu and COVID immunization clinic in the auditorium. Students and their families from all over the district came out to get up to date with their vaccinations. In total, 54 COVID boosters and 68 flu shots were administered to our community.
Today, our student leadership group, the Falcon Influencers, were officially selected and recognized by their peers at breakfast. Falcon Influencers are a group of 3rd-5th graders who will learn leadership skills by participating in various responsibilities around campus. These include raising/lowering the flags in the morning/afternoon, leading guests on tours, campus beautification, and more. These students applied for the positions with a written interview and 1:1 interview with Principal Friedenberg. Check out their picture below. Well done Falcons!

not just on Halloween."

Federal Impact Aid Survey
Federal Impact Aid Surveys were sent in the mail this week to any families who did not complete the form online during registration. It is crucially important for all families to fill out the form and return it either to the office or using the self-addressed stamped envelope included in the mailing. The Federal Impact Aid Survey helps SDUSD receive adequate funding from the Federal Government by identifying additional sources of funding that students may qualify for based on where they live. If you have any questions regarding the form, please contact Sarah Kidder at the SDUSD Impact Aid Office.
ALL STUDENTS ATTENDING TRUNK OR TREAT MUST BE SUPERVISED BY AN ADULT (unless in PrimeTime) Parking is available in the main lot or either side lots. Entrance will be at the main park gates.
Staying Healthy
You may have seen in the news that Influenza and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) have been on the rise lately in schools across San Diego County. This week at Fletcher, we had an above average number of students go home ill. At this point we don't have information indicating that these illnesses are COVID related, thankfully. However, it is always wise to review important suggestions for staying healthy with your students. Please see the flyer attached below. In two weeks, on October 28th we will also be hosting a Flu/COVID vaccination clinic on campus after school. Flu vaccinations, Monkeypox, and bivalent COVID booster vaccinations will all be available for free on a walk-in basis. If you need a COVID test, we have them available at the front office for free.
Our Student of the Week for is Dakotah in Mr. León's 5th Grade Class. Dakotah is being recognized by Mr. León for her enthusiastic participation in math and her consistent modeling of our school-wide expectations. Way to go, Dakotah! Thank you for being a phenomenal Falcon!

Sign Up for Weekly COVID Testing on Campus
