September Update
From the office of the Superintendent
Dear Families,
It's hard to believe that the first month of school is already behind us! It was an exciting time to welcome students back and support them as they transition to their next grade. It was particularly fun to watch their expressions as they saw the changes due to renovations at each school. Maple Place in particular looks vastly different and the students are enjoying their new learning spaces. The two Back-to-School Nights were both jam-packed which speaks to the strong community involvement we are lucky to have in our District.
Last spring, students in grades 3-8 took the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment (NJSLA). The individual score reports were received by the district and were mailed home; you should have received them. The district scores will also be reported at the October Board of Education meeting on October 18, 2022 which will be held at the Wolf Hill School at 6pm. At that time, we will also honor those students who earned a perfect score in either language arts or mathematics.
Last week, the District received exciting news regarding PreK Expansion Aid which will enable us to expand our PreK. We are in the planning stages of implementation. Once the plan in finalized, we will share with our communities for registration into the lottery to attain a seat for your eligible child.
In closing, this year one of our goals is to provide more opportunities for stakeholder engagement. Please see details below for the Fall Chat with the Superintendent which will focus on our referendum projects.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Laura Godlesky, Ed.D.
GOVERNOR'S TEACHER AND EDUCATIONAL PROFESSIONALS OF THE YEAR!

Please submit all nominations by November 8th, 2023.
We look forward to celebrating our winners!
Title I News: Right to Know Letter
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was passed by the U.S. Congress and signed into law on December 10, 2015. The ESSA replaces the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) and is the latest reauthorization of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA). This law requires that all schools receiving Title I funds must inform parents of their right to ask schools about the professional qualifications of their child’s teachers. Our schools receive Title I funding and we are happy to share this information with you upon your request.
Please see additional details in the letter below from our Director of Curriculum and Instruction, Mrs. Geraldine Martinez.
Assessments for the 2023-2024 School Year
Each school year, there are both local and state assessments that are conducted at each grade level in our school district. The data that is collected from many of these assessments are important to instructional planning to maximize student growth. Additionally, some results are utilized for program determination. The letter and table below provide information about which assessments are given at each grade level.
Fall Chat with the Superintendent
As another way to openly communicate and engage stakeholders, I will be holding quarterly meetings on a variety of topics of district interest. The first one is scheduled for 9:30am on October 30, 2023 and will be held in the media center at Maple Place School. The topic of this session is the Referendum Projects. This has been an exciting time for the district as almost every space is being renovated. I look forward to having a conversation about our progress thus far as well as a glimpse into our future projects.
