During the September 27th Board Meeting, the Board of Education approved a revision to Policy EJ, Animals in Buildings, and the accompanying regulations.

In summary, beyond Service Animals, the only other types of animals permitted on school grounds, in school vehicles, or inside District buildings are animals there for a legitimate educational interest (e.g. classroom animals), or those in a working capacity (e.g. law enforcement or therapy dogs). For therapy dogs, an appointment must be made with the school prior to the dog entering the building. In addition, proof of insurance and certification by a therapy provider must be verified by the District’s Risk Management Department prior to entry into a building.

Admission of Therapy Dogs and Therapy Dogs-in-Training on occasion, arrangements are made to bring in Therapy Dogs or Therapy Dogs-In-Training, for building This is allowed, so long as an appointment has been made prior to the dog entering the building. In addition, the handler of the Therapy Dog must provide proof of certification and proof of insurance for the dog, to be verified by the Risk Management Department prior to the dog’s entry. For Therapy Dogs-In-Training, the handler must provide proof that the dog has passed the “Canine Good Citizen” test to be verified by the Risk Management Department prior to the dog’s entry into the building. The Safety Officer or Designee will maintain a list of eligible therapy dogs and therapy dogs-in-training. The list will be updated annually, with tests, certifications, and insurance reviewed annually. Dogs verified by the Safety Officer will receive a badge to be worn while on District property. We have hearing and vision screenings scheduled on January 24, 25, and 26. Please make sure if your student wears glasses and/or hearing aids to bring them to school for testing.

King friends and families, do you know someone looking for a job who loves kids? King has a health tech job opening and we are looking for an amazing person to join our team! This position is for Monday-Friday, 4 hours per day.

We also have a K-5 special education paraprofessional position available. This position is Mon-Fri for 7 hours per day.

These are great jobs for parents who want the same schedule as their kids or recent graduates (high school or college) interested in working in schools.
