Message from Supt. Loving
North Santiam School District Families -
I am writing to you to reaffirm the North Santiam School District's strong commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive, and welcoming learning environment for every student in our district.
At the North Santiam School District, we firmly believe that every student deserves the right to learn, grow, and achieve in an environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. We are dedicated to upholding the principles of belonging, diversity, and inclusion. As such, we will continue our efforts to ensure that our schools remain safe places where every student is treated with respect and dignity, regardless of their race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected status.
To fulfill this commitment, we will continue to:
Implement and Enforce Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policies: Our school district has comprehensive anti-discrimination policies in place that strictly prohibit any form of discrimination or harassment. District policy also prohibits the display of hate symbols on school property and in school programs. We will consistently enforce these policies, taking all necessary actions to investigate and address any reported incidents promptly and effectively. For more information, please see the policies and rules linked at the bottom of this letter.
Promote Belonging and Inclusion: We actively foster an inclusive educational environment that recognizes, welcomes, and values the unique backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences of all students, staff, and community members.
Provide Education and Training: Our district will continue to provide education and training for students, staff, and administrators to raise awareness of the district’s anti-discrimination and anti-harassment policies and to promote a culture of respect, acceptance, and belonging.
Support Reporting Processes: We will maintain accessible reporting processes for individuals to report incidents of discrimination and/or harassment.
Students and families are encouraged to report any concerns about harassment, discrimination, bias, or a hate symbol to the school administrator or other trusted adult.
Staff are expected to elevate such reports to the administration so they may be addressed.
Formal complaint procedures are also available - please see the links below.
Regularly Review and Improve: We will regularly review and assess our policies, administrative regulations, practices, and initiatives to identify areas where improvements can be made and to ensure our commitment remains steadfast.
Again, the North Santiam School District remains dedicated to ensuring that no student ever feels discriminated against or unsafe while at school. Collectively, we will work towards creating an environment where all students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
I welcome your input, collaboration, and support in achieving these commitments. Together, we are building a brighter and more inclusive future for the students in our community.
Thank you for your partnership in these shared efforts to provide a safe and rigorous educational experience where every student has the opportunity to flourish.
Thank you,
Lee W. Loving
