Lenox Elementary

This school year is winding down in the amount of weeks left, however, we are still full steam ahead on ensuring we are focused on learning and student success. We have wrapped up our Right Brain Artist Residency with BodyVox and the students and teachers had a fun time expressing their learning through movement and dance. Make sure to take a look at the important dates below so you don't miss out on a lot of activities scheduled before the end of the school year. I'd also like to give a shout-out to our Booster Club for the huge amount of work, love and appreciation they gave to our staff during Teacher Appreciation week. Thank you to all families and community members for donating time, energy, supplies, food, gifts and so much more. We truly feel appreciated and lucky to be a part of this amazing community!

With summer approaching and as you are planning possible adventures for your family, you might consider visiting a college campus or exploring a new or special interest with your child. Hillsboro School District's Career and College Pathways program is a resource for students and families as they begin to explore the future. Take a look at the HSD's district website under Programs to explore all the district has to offer. Here's a brief overview of the program.

• Career and college may seem far away, but it is never too early to take that first step and get on the right track. Hillsboro School District is committed to ensuring all students are college- and career-aware, eligible and prepared.

  Becoming aware involves early exposure to colleges and careers, interest mapping, guidance lessons and the completion of national standardized tests. It also involves students and parents understanding the requirements for high school graduation as well as entrance requirements for technical or vocational schools, two-year community colleges, four-year public and private colleges, and even the military.

  Becoming eligible involves students completing the necessary steps to proceed with their post-high school choice. This includes ensuring they meet entrance requirements, applying for their choice(s) within the deadlines, planning for paying college tuition and/or supporting themselves, and planning the steps needed to achieve their future goal.

  Becoming prepared involves gaining the knowledge, skills and work ethic that lead to future success. Students will need a well-rounded education in a wide array of subjects, good study and work habits, and the skills to prepare them for independent living.

Child Development Specialist

We are busy in the music room! K-2 are correctly naming, classifying and playing unpitched percussion families. 1-3 are learning pitches on the staff. K-3 are working on their best singing voices by matching pitch. 2-3 grades are reviewing and learning new rhythms. 4-6 grade just finished identifying repeats, steps, and skips visually and aurally. 4th grade are working on C position songs on the keyboards. 5th graders are learning how to play melodies on pitched instruments called “Pbuzz” and “Toot,” then they will start guitar. 6th grade is learning a few Bhangra steps to prepare for our culture boxes from India arriving mid-May and will also have a turn on the “Pbuzz” and “Toot.” All grades are learning their dances for Family Dance Night May 24th and will be learning a little about India. If you’d like to volunteer or share during our learning about India, please contact Ms. Young. Please come and join us for the Celebration of Learning and dance the night away!

Lenox General Music and Band Specialist

For both the primary and intermediate grade levels we spent the majority of April working on developing our rope jumping skills. We also used this activity as an opportunity to discuss and learn about activities and habits we can develop to build healthy hearts. The culminating event to our jump rope unit is Jump Rope for Heart. All our students got a lot of exercise and had a great time in our different rope jumping events on Monday, April 23rd. Jump Rope for Heart is sponsored by the American Heart Association and during this time we raised money for the Heart Association in their effort to fight heart disease. I’d like to THANK our Lenox community for your efforts and generosity in contributing to this extremely important cause.
