An Update from Breakthrough at Kent Denver
End of Summer Message from our Executive Director!
“Challenges are what make life interesting; overcoming them is what makes life meaningful” Joshua Marine
Dear Breakthrough Community,
I want to send a huge CONGRATULATIONS to ALL the phenomenal Breakthrough students and staff for completing a wonderful and challenging summer! Never would we have imagined a summer without an in-person Breakthrough community, but we committed to still showing up for ourselves and each other. We accepted the challenge of navigating Breakthrough virtually, and committed ourselves to using those challenges as building blocks and not barriers to success. Together, we showed that Breakthrough is more than just an amazing community—Breakthrough is a mindset that is cultivated within you.
We are so proud of implementing six weeks of academically rigorous programming for our rising 7th-9th graders, and three weeks of programming for our rising 10th graders. We thank our students and Teaching Fellows for showing up every day, cameras on, cameras off, wacky tacky Tuesday and all! We thank our families for creating space and a great home environment for learning! We thank our volunteers for helping us complete three separate supply deliveries to over 200 students! We thank the La Napoule Art Foundation, the Cottonwood Institute, and the Young Americans Youth Biz Program for being excellent partners this summer! And most importantly, thank you to our incredible Admin team, Brooke, Jhasmyne, and Parker for putting in countless hours to create this special summer and a safe space for our students and Teaching Fellows.
For a glance at how we facilitated our virtual program, please visit our Virtual Student Portal for the Summer 2020. This was our home base for class links, assignments, advisory, electives, community time and more.
And check out our first All-School Meeting, “Meet Our Faculty and Staff” and our final week six All-School Meeting, “What Would I Tell my Middle School Self?”
It’s not about what happens to us, it’s about how we respond to what happens to us. Thank you, Breakthrough students and staff, for still choosing to be present this summer. Thank you for remaining 100% dedicated to yourselves by remaining 100% dedicated to the Breakthrough community.
Thank you all for your support!
