December Newsletter
Rabbit Creek Elementary
Principal Update:
Rabbit Creek Families,
What a wonderful time of year! Can you believe that it is December already?!? This first half of the school year has flown by with much to celebrate! We are focusing this month on a KINDNESS initiative. What does that mean? It means that students hold the power to change someone's day by providing empathy and modeling acts of kindness. How much can we spread until winter break?!?
There will be no school on Friday, December 22nd, as teachers will be working on second quarter report cards. Report cards will be sent home during the week of January 8th. All missing work needs to be turned in by Thursday, December 21st at the latest. Talk to your child to see if they need to do anything for their grades/learning over the next couple of weeks. Please take a look at the flyers below, as we will hosting some fun school spirit days.
After last snowstorm's snowfall, we have many students continuing to be tardy after 9:00. Please help your child get to school on time, as the start of their day will set them up for success! Being on time allows them to start their routine off right, listen to important announcements, offers time to check in with their teacher, and prepares them for a successful day with helpful tools and instruction. We thank you kindly for your help.
Leave of Absence:
It is with mixed emotions that I will be going on maternity leave the end of this week through February. I leave you in the most capable hands of Acting Principal Adrianne Grenier and look forward to my return! As I work with Mrs. Grenier on my transition, I will be including her in parent communication and prepping her with upcoming initiatives so Rabbit Creek can continue doing ALL the great things that we offer and fulfilling our goals! You can reach her at:

Our Mission:

As I write the last principal's letter for 2023, I wish you a wonderful winter break, and a Happy New Year filled with love, laughter and good health! Thank you for your ongoing support!

6th Grade Moving to Middle School:
ASD is in the process of preparing for our 6th graders (current 5th graders) to transition to the middle school level. Last February, the School Board approved a two-year transition plan of remaining 6th graders at neighborhood elementary schools to comprehensive middle schools. Our Moving to Middle School project is one of many new projects being launched this year and next year. As you continue to support our amazing students this school year, this new web page will be the best resource to help you support them for next year’s big move to middle school. We will be updating it throughout the year as planning continues.

Healthy Future Logs
Alaska children K-6th grade can complete the Challenge. Students keep a log of their daily physical activity and need to be active at least 60 minutes a day for 15 days each month. This helps Alaska children get closer to the national recommendation of 60 minutes of physical activity every day for the best health.
Students write down the names of the activities in the boxes for the days they are physically active for at least 60 minutes. (They can simply write the names of the activities, for example: skiing, running, raking the leaves, recess, PE ) They can log the time spent doing the activity as well if they wish, although this is not required.
At the end of each healthy futures challenge month students can turn in their completed log during PE and earn healthy futures prizes, and a grand prize drawing ticket.
The grand prize can be selected from a menu of fun items including Ladderball, Spikeball, a Healthy Futures Hoody and more!
The incentive for completing November Healthy Future log this month is a Splat Ball!
Stay active!
