One Amazing Story: New climbing club debuts at Leyden
This month's One Amazing Story features a new teacher, a new club, and students empowering themselves by facing fears and conquering physical challenges. Leyden's first climbing club launched this fall, much to the delight (and a little trepidation!) of student participants, who venture to the gym once a week to scale big walls and practice skills by bouldering. Most of these students never climbed before and many didn't know another student in the club, and yet are connecting themselves through this newfound interest.

Course selection process starts in January
Starting in January, our school counselors will begin meeting with students to review and discuss course selections for the upcoming academic year. All students are encouraged to approach this meeting with a thoughtful consideration of their academic interests, future goals, and desired challenges. The course selection process is a significant aspect of shaping each student's educational experience, and the choices made now can have a lasting impact on their academic and personal development.
NEW Leyden Policy for the School Year:
It is crucial to note that once the course selection process is completed and submitted, changes will not be possible after February 15, 2024. In the past, students were allowed to make changes into the summer before the school year. This will no longer be the case. As a result, students are encouraged to use this time to carefully evaluate their options, seek advice from their current teachers, and engage in discussions with their parents or guardians to ensure that the chosen courses and alternate courses align with their aspirations. In the event that an elective or non required class is not available, student’s selected alternate courses will be used. Therefore it is important the alternate courses selected are viable options.
Please review the email that was sent last week for additional details and resources.
Parent Series: Navigating Healthy Families
Leyden High School continues its partnership with the Glenbard Parent Series (GPS) which is offering numerous upcoming virtual sessions throughout December and January. GPS is a resource to inform, connect and inspire parents, educators, students and the community. The speakers presented in these sessions offer knowledge, strategies and personal experiences to help support parents and students. This program offers free virtual events presented at 12 p.m. CT and 7 p.m. CT and is offered in multiple languages.

Eight seniors awarded Plumber’s Training Certification
Eight Leyden seniors were honored on Thursday, December 14, after successfully completing ten weeks of rigorous training with the Plumbers Local 130 UA. These classes were held twice a week after school.
Congratulations to the following students: East: Edwin Aguayo, Ali Flores, Joshua Lopez, Alex Salgado and Alexander Truchan; West: Gabriel Castillo, Rickardo Montero and Sebastian Padilla.
