As we enter the winter season, it is important to know what to expect from GCPS in case of inclement weather.

If weather conditions pose a potential safety concern, the decision to cancel school or delay opening might be made. It is more likely for school to be canceled in the early morning - due to dangerous road conditions that formed overnight - than for school to let out early because bad weather is moving in.

If bad weather causes school to be canceled or dismissed early, public announcements will be made on GCPS TV, on the school system's website (www.gcpsk12.org), on Twitter and Facebook, through Parent Square, and via metro-Atlanta radio and television stations. Full-day cancellations usually are announced by 6:00 AM. GCPS TV can be found on the following Gwinnett County cable channels:

• Charter - Channel 180
• Comcast - Channel 24 or 26 (depending on location)
• Visit us on our GCPS TV app on Apple, Android, Amazon Fire, and Roku devices or view the live stream at GCPSTV.org

A student who is well rested and well fed and has a positive attitude about testing is best prepared for testing. You can help your student do his or her best by considering these tips:

• Make sure that your student is in school and on time on test days.
• Make sure your student gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast before each day of testing.
• Emphasize that you have confidence in his or her ability to do the best job possible.
• Remind your student to listen to the directions and read each question carefully during testing.

On January 6th, 12 SKG students auditioned at the 2nd round of All-State Band auditions. Each of these students spent months preparing for this audition against the top student musicians in the state. Two of our students earned a seat in the All-State Band and a third was selected as 1st alternate! Congratulations to these students for this major accomplishment!

Seniors - this message is a reminder that if you have not already done so, please take care of your Senior Dues which includes your cap and gown. Scholastic Images, our cap and gown provider, will be placing the Cap and Gown order for Seckinger on February 1, 2024. If you have not already done so, we need you to take care of one of the following options.

To ensure you receive a Cap & Gown that fits you, you MUST complete one of the following 2 options no later than 11:59pm on Wednesday, January 31st.

1. Order your Cap & Gown Package now. The fee is at the lowest amount it will be for the remainder of the year, so take advantage and order your cap & gown today! A payment plan is available by ordering online ONLY and choosing the After Pay option at check out.
2. RESERVE your Cap & Gown Package now, pay LATER. If needed, you can RESERVE your cap & gown now and then come back to pay later. Please note while you are reserving your gown, you are NOT reserving the fee amount. Therefore, you will have to pay whatever the current amount is at the time you make payment. (i.e. any additional late fees) Choosing this option ensures that you will receive a Cap & Gown that fits you and it will be delivered with the rest of the class IF paid prior to Sunday, March 17th at 11:59pm.

If you do not complete one of the 2 options, we are not able to guarantee your size, or that a gown will be available for you. All students planning to participate in the Graduation Ceremony must order a Cap & Gown Package.

• Only Seckinger HS students and opposing HS students will be permitted in games without a parent. High School IDs will be checked.
  
• Students must leave school on game day and can return thirty minutes before the start.
