Returning to School Safely
COVID-19 continues to spread across the communities served by ABCUSD. To ensure we are keeping our schools safe, we have developed a COVID-19 Safety Plan for the 2022-2023 school year. This plan meets or exceeds all required protocols from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Please take a moment to read through the plan.
Keeping our schools healthy and safe takes all of us. Remember the following:
Don’t send students to school if they aren’t feeling well
Wearing a mask is strongly recommended but not required at this time
Vaccines have been proven to be safe and effective, and all who can get vaccinated are strongly encouraged to do so
Washing hands frequently for at least 20 seconds or using hand sanitizer with 60% ethanol helps prevent the spread of the virus

Monkeypox
Families may have questions about the spread of Monkeypox. Recently, Dr. Rita Singhal, chief medical officer for the Los Angeles Department of Public Health was quoted in a Los Angeles Times article saying: “The risk of spread is minimal from attending an event with fully clothed people, traveling with others on a plane or public transit, swimming in a pool, hot tub or body of water or going to a public setting such as a grocery store, restaurant or to school.”
At this time, the District’s Health Services Department is monitoring the spread of the virus and will keep families informed. You can learn more about Monkeypox at the L.A. County Department of Public Health’s Monkeypox website.

Teachers Professional Learning
Teachers went back to school before the beginning of the new school year to learn new techniques and skills to bring to their classrooms. The ABCUSD Academic Services Department provided two days of professional development to both elementary and secondary teachers, where they heard from leaders in the teaching profession, instructors on teaching methods, and speakers covering topics related to their work. ABCUSD teachers are committed to making sure every student has an amazing learning experience.
