November News Extras
School News, District News, and Community Items
Wellness Week!
There is no school during our Wellness Week, November 20-24. We hope students enjoy the fall break from school.
Community Service Success!
The neighborhood leaf clean up for community service was a nice success. We were able to borrow rakes from Keep Columbus Beautiful and Lowes Home Improvement donated leaf bags. The crew of students, families, and staff were able to rake leaves at several houses. Our neighbors were so appreciative of the help. Working together in a group was a lot of fun too! Thanks to those who were able to come.
Composting Comes to Northtowne
Mr. Kevin Howell is an urban farmer who has partnered with our school for a composting program. Monday, November 13 Mr. Kevin came to teach the students about composting and explain what we are doing at our school. Students learned that things you eat are compostable but things you don't eat still go in the trash cans. For the composting program. students will place their food scraps from lunch into a compost collection bin. Mr. Kevin will monitor the bin and regularly take the bin to empty it to the composting area at his home. Then nature, with a little help from Mr. Kevin, will turn those food scraps into compost and soil. Mr. Kevin hopes to bring back some of the soil to use in the garden beds behind our school. He would even be willing to help us grow a garden and show students some of the yummy things that can be made from the garden plants!
Check out the photos below to see Mr. Kevin interacting with our students during the information assembly. The students did an excellent job of listening and participating during the assembly! We hope this program will be a success!
