Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend and are ready for the new week 😊

This week...

• is a four day week, which means Tuesday is an all-period schedule
• Promise Time classes will continue to work on their Celebration of Hispanic Heritage classroom doors

We would like to invite all of our families to attend our second Coffee with the Principal on Wednesday, October 11 at 9:20 - 10:00.

We will be walking parents through Power School, as well as gaining your input on an attendance initiative.

You are invited to learn more about our English as a second language program, the process of reclassification, the ELPAC and we will be voting on the 2023-2024 ELAC committee.

The first ELAC/DELAC meeting of the school year will be on Wednesday, October 11 from 10:20 - 11:00.

Hope you can join us - specially if you are the parent pf an English Language Learner.

We will be hosting the our first Math family Night, aimed at helping parents understand what your students are expected to learn this school year, how you can assist them and the resources that are available.

This night will be led by the Westbrook high math team - Ms. Pastor, Ms. Tran and Mr. MacDonald.

Want to contact your students teacher? You can either contact them directly via email or you can have the office relay a message or schedule a conference for you, by calling either Ms. Rubio or Ms. Avalos at (213) 348-6850.

Door decoration contest for Hispanic Heritage Month is on Friday, October 6; All Promise Time classes should be working on this every Friday.

• 1st place = Donut party, 250 PBIS points for each student in PT and Free Dress Pass for Monday, October 9.
• 2nd place = Donut party, and 250 PBIS points for each student in PT
• 3rd place = 250 PBIS points for each student in PT

College Track will be on campus on Thursday, September 28 during lunch time in room 113.

College Track is currently accepting only 9th graders into the program; the goal of the program is to provide academic support, leadership training, financial and college advising, and scholarships.

Please note that uniform checks are conducted daily and every student is expected to abide by the uniform policy.

Student wearing slides, slippers, sandals or any shoe deemed a safety hazard will remain in the main office until parent is able to bring them a change of shoes.

Students who are not in uniform will…

• Lose PBIS points

• Serve nutrition and lunch detention that day

• Receive a parent phone call, asking to be brought a change of clothes

Food cannot be delivered to students during the school day by food delivery establishments, including but not limited to Uber Eats, Door Dash or GrubHub. Please remember that only parents and immediate family members in the computer system can deliver food to you during the school day. This is to better ensure the security of the school as well as to minimize disruptions to the school day. Food delivered to students by outside delivery companies will be confiscated and given to students at the end of the day, as they head home. If a student opens an outside door to allow an outside food delivery, or accepts food through the gate, they will face disciplinary consequences as that creates a security risk.

Consequences for ordering food will include...

• 1 week of nutrition and lunch detention
• A parent conference
• Confiscation of the food order, which will only be provided to the students guardian after school

If you have any questions or concerns - please feel free to contact the office directly

Please note that once picture day comes and goes (Friday, August 18) - all students will be required to have their school ID card in order to ride the bus. The ID cards will be scanned daily, allowing us to easily track what student was in what bus, in case that information is needed.

Lastly, remind your student that riding the school bus is a privilege that is contingent upon the continuous observance of bus rules and established regulations.

The expectation is that students...

• Remain seated the entire time that the bus is in motion
• Noice level should be at a minimum - since it is important for them to hear any instructions that the bus driver sees fit to deliver; Thus no speakers are allowed on the bus
• Nothing should be thrown in or out of the bus
• There is no eating on the bus
• Destroying property (including tagging) is not only against the law but agains the bus rules

Students unable to observe these expectations may loose the privilege to ride the bus
