During the designated student check-in period, students will have the opportunity to complete several important tasks. They will have their school picture taken for the yearbook and their student ID card. Additionally, they can visit the bookkeeper stations to settle any applicable fees, receive locker information, and stop by the library to check out their textbooks. This event also provides a chance to reunite with friends and classmates, setting a positive tone for the upcoming school year!
The following Laker Check-In Packet will help you prepare for the 2023/24 school year:
LOHS Webstore
- Purchase an ASB Sticker for your student(s) - this allows students into some athletic events, saves money on dances, and more!
- Pre-order a 23/24 yearbook
- Athletic fees and passes
- Donate to the Laker Parent Club
NOTE: If you have paid for an ASB sticker and your student does not have one on their Student Body card, please have them stop by the main office and see our bookkeeper, Ms. Munds, for a sticker.
Smart Start 2023
Smart Start is an opportunity specifically for our students with 504s and IEPs, and their parents and guardians, to make introductions and connect with their teachers and to feel prepared and welcomed for the start of school. Smart Start is in person on Thursday, Aug. 31, 12:30-2:30 p.m.
Teachers will be familiar with your student’s plan and accommodations. To help get to know your students, please complete the attached one-page profile or create one on your own ahead of time, and give it to the teacher at the Smart Start introduction.
Also, to assist in your family’s preparation for the new school year use the Smart Start checklist for parents and guardians of students with 504s and IEPs.
See you on August 31!
Schedule Changes
Student schedules will be available on StudentVue starting Tuesday afternoon on August 22nd. Students should click Class Schedule (not Gradebook) in StudentVue to see their yearlong schedule. The offering and staffing of all LOHS classes and the subsequent development/design of the schedule is based on the forecasted class requests made by each student in the spring. Please remember, students selected alternate electives during forecasting last school year and were informed that alternate elective choices could be in their schedule if classes were full or if there were other scheduling conflicts. Please note: Many students will notice that they are scheduled for year long classes during different periods each semester (e.g. English 12: Period 1 during Semester 1 but Period 3 during Semester 2). This is not an error—it is specifically designed to accommodate more elective options for students, and consequently will not meet the criteria for a schedule change.
If you believe that you need a schedule change, please read the information below and fill out the schedule change request form found here: https://forms.gle/zM5Vj8RZ9Vi4bXz88
*Counselors will be unable to respond to schedule change requests via email, so it is important to use the google form link.
A schedule change MAY be granted if:
*The student wants to drop a class to have a free period
*The student needs the course to fulfill graduation requirements
*The student does not meet course prerequisites (e.g. scheduled for Art 2 before taking Art 1)
*The student is placed in the wrong level of the course (i.e. Math, Honors, AP)
*The student is missing a core subject (English, Science, Math, Social Studies, World Language)
The Counseling Department will review the schedule change request form for the criteria above. If the schedule change is granted, your schedule will be updated in StudentVue. If your schedule has not changed before the first day of school, it is because you do not meet the criteria above or the change was not possible. Students are expected to follow their current schedule (updated schedules will be reflected in StudentVue.).
Schedule change requests must be submitted by 3:00 PM on Wednesday, August 30th.
