Important Notification: Parent Communication (Alleged Implied Threat)
April 14, 2023
Roswell Families,
This letter is to inform you of an alleged implied threat that occurred on social media. Staff was informed that an implied threat of violence was made against the school. We were able to verify that this was not an accurate report.
We followed our safety protocols, identified the student who made the alleged thread, and fully investigated the matter. We found that the tip was not creditable.
At Roswell High School we are committed to providing a safe learning environment for your child. Safety is a top priority, and we take all incidents seriously. I will continue to keep you informed of situations and provide accurate information when incidents happen at our school.
Remember, if you see something, say something. Thank you for your involvement in your child’s education and your partnership with our school. If you have questions, feel free to contact me at 470-254-4500.

Happy April! (1)
April 10, 2022
Hello Hornet Families,
Happy April! I hope your Spring Break was very enjoyable and restful! We are officially into the home stretch. We have six more full weeks of school before we conclude the 2022-2023 school year. Sometimes, I cannot believe that the school year is coming to an end; a remarkable journey for our seniors is also concluding as the final chapter of their K-12 experience.
This month is rather short, so please stay tuned to important information to ensure that you do not miss any key events or meetings: Senior meetings, EOC testing, AP testing and much more. Please stay connected!
Reminder: During the 2022-2023 school year, FCS will review resources for textbook adoption for Mathematics in Grades K-12. The following resources are to be reviewed by all teachers and the public from March 27, 2023 - May 5, 2023. Roswell High School will serve as a viewing site for 6-12 resources. Please stop by our school’s front office atrium to review the resources. Visitors are not permitted beyond the atrium for the textbook review.

Autism Awareness Month!
Across the nation, people with autism and the organizations that support them are gearing up for the month-long celebration of National Autism Awareness Month. Want to get involved?
There are a variety of actions you can take to spread the word about autism and to encourage neuro-typical Americans to be more accepting, inclusive and appreciative of the gifts people with autism bring into our world.
The Autism Society recommends that friends, families and allies of people with autism connect with local organizations sponsoring special autism month events such as autism walks, runs, and other fundraisers, sensory-friendly events and online activities. The Autism Society also asks people affected by autism to share their experiences on the society’s Facebook page, and to wear or display the society’s Autism Awareness Puzzle Ribbon. Donations to the Autism Society, Autism Speaks or many other organizations that support research and programming for people with autism is a critical way to support Autism Awareness Month.
Another way is to become knowledgeable about the signs and symptoms of autism and to help educate others about these. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that parents and medical professionals be aware of developmental milestones (such as smiling, sitting up, crawling, babbling) and seek help if they feel concerned that their child is not meeting milestones within normal limits. Time is of the essence here, because early diagnosis and intervention is crucial to having a favorable prognosis. According to Autism Speaks, “Recent research confirms that appropriate screening can determine whether a child is at risk for autism as young as one year.” Once a child is diagnosed, parents, physicians and therapists can determine a treatment plan and therapy can begin.
“While every child develops differently,” according to Autism Speaks, “we also know that early treatment improves outcomes, often dramatically. Studies show, for example, that early intensive behavioral intervention improves learning, communication and social skills in young children with autism spectrum disorders.”
Many children with autism benefit from interventions such as speech/language, creative arts and occupational therapies. Sometimes treatment takes place in a sensory room or sensory space.
Enabling Devices offers a variety of products that therapists and special educators can use in their work with clients and students with ASD who experience sensory processing challenges. In a previous blogpost, Enabling Devices’ Product Development Specialist Karen O’Brien explains, “Sensory rooms are spaces where children and adults can explore their environments through visual, auditory and tactile experiences.” For example, sensory spaces might contain “swings, ball pits, LED light illuminators, bubble tubes, gel pads, weighted vests, musical and tactile toys, sensory wall panels, aromatherapy fans and comfortable seating such as beanless bag chairs.”
Though setting up a sensory space may seem like an expensive and/or overwhelming task, it needn’t be. While some sensory spaces are large, and chock full of equipment, toys and other devices, others are created by dedicating an alcove or walk-in closet, and contain just a few carefully selected items. Our staff is happy to help you design a sensory space that accommodates your space, budget and desires. You can start planning your sensory space by completing our sensory design questionnaire. A staff member from Enabling Devices will contact you to provide advice within 48 hours.
For more information on sensory spaces, see these blogposts:

Student Success Skills (SSS)
April 10, 2023
Dear Parents,
This week of Student Success Skills lessons will focus on Self-Compassion. Students learn to practice self-acceptance, kindness to oneself, and self-care.
From ReThinkEd: “Self-compassion is an important part of self-care. It is about treating ourselves with the same kindness that we would treat a good friend. It is about responding to our mistakes, inadequacies, and failures with compassion instead of harsh judgement. It is acknowledging that imperfection is a shared human experience.”
The literature for the lesson can be found here:
Have a fantastic week! Let your student know you are part of their support system!
Thank you for your support!

Cosmetology Highlight! Congratulations to Morgan Whitley
In honor of Womens History Month the Intro to Personal Care Service students participated in a Vintage Hairstyling Competition. They had an opportunity to choose a famous woman of their choice from either the 19th or 20th century and replicate their hairstyle. The students had to provide a photo of the hairstyle they were replicating and write an essay that included a brief biography of the woman, a description of how they achieved their hairstyle and an explanation as to why they chose her.
Just to add a few more details, all of the hairstyles originally began as a basic roller set. The students were not allowed to use any styling tools therefore the foundation of each style was created by hand. As a final twist, I suprised the students on the last day of their preparation and allowed them to use hot tools 🙂
GIPA State Championships: Indoor Drumline!

The group worked very hard all season and their hard work paid off. Special Thanks to Marcus Hawkins and his staff for all the time and dedication they put into the group.

FinDS is an innovative program that is designed to provide high school students a strong base in the Mathematical Foundations of Data Science. We do not expect a prior background in data science. A strong background in algebra and willingness to work hard is all that is required to participate in the program. The program is appropriate for any student who has taken Algebra 2. Even college students seeking a solid background in the foundation of data science are welcome to apply.
FinDS is brought to you by the EnCORE institute at UCSD. FinDS will be led by the creator of PACT, Prof. Rajiv Gandhi. PACT started in 2009 has been enormously successful with an impact worldwide on school and college students. We bring in the passion to educate and create a next-generation of college students with solid mathematical foundations in Data Science.
The program is generously supported by the National Science Foundations and multiple scholarships are available.
What is the Emerging Leaders Program?
The Emerging Leaders Program (ELP) offers a unique opportunity for sophomores and juniors from North Fulton high schools who wish to develop leadership skills, identify and address community issues, and interact with local leaders. This is accomplished through a combination of interactive lectures, discussions, site visits, outside activities, community service, and networking opportunities.
This program provides the skills and knowledge for students to be effective leaders in their communities. The program is built around class days with specific topics to be addressed such as healthcare, government, professional development, financial literacy, mock interviews, strength building, public safety, and much more!
Do you have a student at your school that stands out among their peers? Do you see potential in the student that needs to develop their leadership skills? This program is for them!
This year, we have 43 students representing 11 high schools in North Fulton. This program is great for your student to step out of their comfort zone, learn new skills, develop new relationships, and engage in their community.
You can find the application for 2023-24 HERE. Deadline to apply is April 1st (students also need a recommendation letter to apply)
Register for our FREE virtual information session on March 7th HERE.
