What's happening at Stone Hill Middle School? September 4
Happy Labor Day Weekend
Good evening Stone Hill Families,
I hope that everyone is enjoying the long Labor Day Weekend. As I reflect on the opening weeks of school, I am especially proud of our Stingrays as I see them meaningfully engaged in classes, making friends, and getting acclimated to school and school routines.
The PBIS word of the month for September is "READY" and students will be reviewing strategies and ideas on how to ensure that they are ready for school in all their learning spaces each day.
Thank you to our parents and guardians who were able to come out for our in-person Back to School Night last week. It was wonderful to open up our doors and build community as parents navigated their child's schedule and visited classes to hear from teachers. If you were unable to attend, please feel free to access your child's Schoology Account for course information and reach out to teachers or your child's counselor as needed. We are looking forward to a great year together with your partnership. Also, here are some important video messages around Safety and Security as well as School Board members if you missed BTSN or did not get a chance to stop by the cafeteria on BTSN:
Safety and Security 5:15
Tiffany Polifko (Broad Run District) 1:20
Jeff Morse (Dulles District) 1:19
Ian Serotkin (Blue Ridge District) 1:35
Jeff Morse (Dulles District) 1:19
As part of our emergency preparedness practices, we will conduct our first lockdown drill on Thursday, September 7.
This week students will participate in Fall MAP Assessments on Tuesday, September 5th (Math) and Wednesday, September 6th (Reading). The Measures of Academic Progress Growth Test (MAP) is designed to measure students’ readiness for learning specific content and skills and academic growth over time. All LCPS students in grades 2-8 are expected to participate in the Reading and Math MAP Growth tests. Your student(s) should arrive at school on-time with a fully charged Chromebook. There is no Advisory on these two days.
Please note that students who completed Summer HS credit math courses will take their SOL this Friday September 8, 2023. These students will be provided a pass through Advisory and report to the library. If you have any questions regarding testing, please do not hesitate to reach out to Mr. Chi.
We are looking forward to seeing our students tomorrow!
In service to you and our Stingray Community,
Rohini Tohan
Principal

Message from the PTO
Welcome Parents!
Greetings from your PTO Executive Board! We are excited for this 2023-2024 School Year! On Tuesday, at Open House, we had the opportunity to meet some of the 6th graders and their parents along with new 7th and 8th grade students and parents. We invite all parents, teachers, and staff to join PTO for this new school year!
The PTO’s mission is to focus on family connections, staff support and student growth. With your help via membership, donations, and volunteer hours we will continue to provide support in all three areas.
Last year, PTO sponsored the following events to include a Fall Festival, Movie Nights, School Dances, MOEMS Math Contest, 8th Grade Dance and Flight Night, PTO General Body Meetings, and teacher appreciation events.
PTO also manages the Stone Hill M.S. School Store that sells spirit wear, drawstring backpacks, candy, gum, and misc. items. We will let you know when the store will officially open.
For us to have the impact we would like to have this school year, we need your support and help! Volunteers are always needed!
